The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Instrumentation and Controls Specialist. The Instrumentation and Controls Specialist earns a competitive annual salary of $63,124 to $80,483 based on qualifications.Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROLS SPECIALISTUnder general direction of the Instrumentation and Controls Coordinator, this position is responsible for ensuring proper functioning of automated systems, specifically maintenance and repair of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and all components related components.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.Essential Functions
  • Installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of various instruments, control system, analyzers and support devices on City wide water and wastewater plants.
  • Working with control systems including transmitters, PLC's, SCADA, VFD's, sensors and control elements used in automated processes.
  • Conducted routine inspections and performed maintenance for production equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairs for equipment errors, plant control system issues
  • Consulting manuals, reading and interpreting P&ID's, circuit diagrams and schematics
  • Repairing, installing and adjusting system components or removing and replacing defective parts
  • Performed daily inspections to monitor equipment and ensure smooth functioning; diagnosed and corrected any operational malfunctions.
  • Complete PMs as required, write standard work orders, document work performed in a computerized work order system.
Additional Duties
  • Attend monthly safety meetings.
  • Generate reports from SCADA.
  • Participates in continuing education activities; attends meetings, workshops and seminars as appropriate.
  • Ability to be on call and respond to plant sites as required.
  • Support in Operation, basic understanding of the process and facility's control system
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training experience in the water industry or related field.
  • Two (2) years experience in fundamentals of instrumentation or closely related field.
Special Certifications And Licenses
  • The preferred minimum certification of this position is an Associate's Degree in instrumentation, engineering technology or related accreditations.
