The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department has and opening for a Telecommunications Infrastructure Coordinator (User Technology Specialist) position. In this role you will be responsible for installation and maintenance activities for the City's enterprise communications network, which include installation and support of the City's copper and fiber optic communications cabling infrastructure. You will work with internal customers to determine scopes of work for cabling projects, create and oversee project budgets, coordinate the installation of cabling and telecommunications hardware, support programs, and manage vendors to successfully support the City's extensive fiber optic and copper networks on small and medium size projects.

The City of Phoenix seeks individuals experienced in the design, installation, and administration of outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) Layer 1 infrastructure environments. The incumbents will perform technical analysis and evaluation of LAN/WAN environments, telecommunications, wireless and RF communications, datacenter or other networks.

The temporary position will be funded through September 2026, and will be reviewed in a future budget cucle to determine if the position will be extended, ended, or made regular. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city’s retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still be applicable and the employee will still contribute to their pension. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered “at-will” and employees may be separated at any time.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Advanced knowledge of installation and termination methods for twisted pair cabling and fiber optic cabling.
  • Ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple telecommunications infrastructure projects.

SALARY

Pay Range: $32.62 to $48.19 per hour.

Hiring Range: $32.62 to $43.71 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in systems applications analysis, programming or telecommunications functions utilizing a variety of hardware and software or installation and maintenance of digital systems, radio, and electronic communications systems,

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Five years of experience installing communication inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) cabling, pathways and spaces.
  • Three years of experience coordinating small and medium size telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, math, electronic systems engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience with designing and supporting communication inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) infrastructure, including datacenters using TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) and BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) standards.
  • Experience using standard CAD, work processing, ESRI ArcGIS and database software packages.
  • Experience writing or interpreting telecommunications project scopes of work.
  • Possess current BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification or successful completions of the BICSI Project Management Course.
