THE CITY OF PORT HURON IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:

MCMORRAN OPERATIONS COORDINATOR

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Plan, coordinate, and assist with the assignments of the maintenance/custodial/housekeeping staff, as well as, set-up/tear-down and maintenance programs for the McMorran Civic Center Arena to ensure a safe, clean environment for facility guests, tenants and visitors. Monitor and coordinate all routine maintenance of the facility including mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems. Prepare recommendations for management regarding maintenance of the facility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general supervision of the McMorran General Manager or other designated representative.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Prepare daily schedules and coordinate duties for full-time and part-time employees.
  • Review event service orders; coordinate staff and assignments for custodial/ housekeeping and set-up/tear-down of each event.
  • Assist guests, tenants or visitors with event set-up modifications or equipment requests.
  • Coordinate and assist with repairs to doors, windows, locks, plumbing, plaster, painting, carpentry and other work required in the general upkeep of the facilities, including dasher boards.
  • Coordinate and assist with trimming, mowing, edging, watering, reseeding, fertilizing and renovating landscaping around the McMorran.
  • Coordinate and assist with snow and ice removal around the McMorran and adjacent parking lots.
  • Coordinate and assist with various custodial (routine and preventative) duties, such as: mopping, sweeping, cleaning, dusting, waxing and polishing floors, painting, maintenance and repair.
  • Operate and maintain ice resurfacing machine.
  • Maintain ice surfaces including edging and painting.
  • Transport necessary equipment and/or supplies to and from storage, as needed, including concession and bar items.
  • May be assigned to operate various equipment, including but not limited to: City owned automobiles, forklift and hydraulic powered lift.
  • Operation of various hand tools and power-driven equipment, as needed.
  • Report time and material used for routine maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain inventory of operational and custodial supplies.
  • Coordinate and assist with deliveries to the McMorran.
  • Monitor, operate and maintain the McMorran HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure it they are operating properly.
  • Test chemicals for inline boiler and cooling tower.
  • Operation of McMorran emergency generator system including monthly testing.
  • Monitor and operate the McMorran fire alarm system on a monthly basis to ensure it is operating properly.
  • Monitor and operate the McMorran elevator to ensure it is operating properly.
  • Schedule and coordinate outside vendor maintenance/repair, as needed.
  • Monitor and perform routine maintenance of the facilities including mechanical, plumbing and electrical.
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance, such as, replacement of small motors, various filters and belts, greasing parts.
  • Assist with the annual inspection of all equipment.
  • Set up and maintain equipment records.
  • Confer with the General Manager on maintenance plans and needs.
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order; motors, sump pumps, vacuums, scrubbers, etc.
  • Keep a daily and monthly report on the maintenance operations.
  • Assist with training full-time and part-time employees.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including: all days of the week, weekends, evenings and swing shifts.
  • Ability to work long hours in order to assist with scheduled events.
  • Working knowledge and experience in setting up and administering preventive building maintenance program, and grounds maintenance program.
  • Working knowledge and experience of methods, procedures, and techniques involved in construction work, building maintenance work, and grounds maintenance.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the installation and operation of plumbing, heating, electrical and air-conditioning systems.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend improvements to the facility and systems.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience with personal computers and using Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate the work of assigned employees.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in order to plan, coordinate, schedule, and assign work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with the public and with other employees.

An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training and experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school required, preferably supplemented by one year of technical training in the trades.
  • Several years' experience in custodial, building and grounds maintenance work.
  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver License (Operator’s).

Working Hours: Varied schedule, including: all days of the week, weekends, evenings and swing shifts

Salary Range: $ 21.89 - $ 23.89 hourly
