City of Portland is Hiring a Revenue & Tax Specialist II Near Portland, OR

Job Appointment: Two full-time, regular appointments available. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri. 8-5P, alternate schedule may be available after probation.
Hybrid/Work Location: 111 SW Columbia Street, Portland OR 97201. One position is 50% in-office, while the other requires 60% in-office for payment processing and document entry, equating to 3 days per week. The Revenue Division is seeking two permanent, full-time Revenue and Tax Specialist II's!Position SummaryThe Revenue & Tax Specialist II (RTS II) functions on the various Revenue Division teams like Personal Income Tax (PIT) Processing, and Call Center and Account Maintenance.
This recruitment may be used to fill additional Revenue and Tax Specialist II positions that become available within the next six months.
As a Revenue & Tax Specialist II, You Will
  • Provide quality customer service to taxpayers, business, and tax professionals.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to taxpayer inquiries.
  • Refer and/or process documents received via the mailroom.
  • Process a high-volume of payments.
  • Create new accounts, review existing accounts; identify and clean up issues with new and existing accounts.
  • Identify issues and refer issues needing escalation to the RTS III's, RTS IV's, and RTS V's.
  • Provide additional support and duties as needed; duties vary with business and tax cycles.

To QualifyThe Following Minimum Qualifications Are Required For This Position
  • Skill and experience providing excellent customer service in a busy setting by phone, email, or in person.
  • Ability and experience explaining complex subjects such as tax code, policies, laws, or financial calculations to the general public/customers.
  • Skill and experience processing a high volume of documents with speed and accuracy.
  • Skill and experience using office suite software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and scheduling/email applications.
Applicants Must Also Possess
  • Ability to pass an educational and criminal background investigation.
  • Ability to undergo fingerprinting as mandated by the IRS regulations upon being hired.

  • Additional evaluation may be required prior to establishment of the eligible list and/or final selection.
Step 3: Establishment of Eligible List: Week of July 29th, 2024
  • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
Step 4: Selection (Interview): August Hiring bureau will review and select candidates for an interview.Please note, the selection process may take up to 90 days from the notification of being placed on the eligible list. Step 5: Offer of Employment: August/September
  • Appointment to the position is contingent upon passing an educational and criminal background check.
  • Successful candidates for the Revenue & Tax Specialist II position must undergo fingerprinting as mandated by the IRS regulations upon being hired.
