The PositionJob Appointment: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Currently Tuesday - Friday, 0530-1600; subject to change to Monday - Friday 0600-1430 in Fall 2024. T his position is considered essential and is will be part of the bureau's 24-hour response team that may require after-hour, evening, weekend, and holiday emergency response.

Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is hiring for a Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor (Maintenance Supervisor I - NE)About The PositionMaintenance Supervisors at Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) work at Maintenance Operations supervising crews in the field performing a variety of daily maintenance and/or asset management operations. This posting is focused on hiring our next Maintenance Operations Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor (Maintenance Supervisor I - NE).What You’ll Get To Do
  • Supervise and evaluate crewsand the work they are involved in. The supervisor is directly responsible for ensuring the safety of their staff and the public
  • Meet program targets, complying with city standards, and guarantee overall quality control
  • Track labor, materials, equipment, and other resources to manage costs and be efficient
  • Communicate with stakeholders when work is going to be done in their area
  • Coordinate with other bureaus, utilities, and other entities who perform work in the right-of-way
  • Lead emergency response crews during inclement weather events and disasters
  • Keep up with industry trends and advancements
  • Attend meetings, as needed, for different groups to plan and discuss projects, equipment, processes, and practices
  • Assist other bureaus when our group is the subject matter expert for a given need
  • Visit crews in the field to supervise and perform safety and work quality assessments
  • Adjust and shift schedules for crew members and equipment to accommodate current and future needs
  • Complete administrative tasks for staff payroll, performance management, training, and development

To QualifyQualifications The following minimum qualifications are required for this position. Applicants must specifically address and demonstrate in their resume and responses to supplemental questions how their education, training and/or experience meets each of the following minimum qualifications: Ability to supervise the daily maintenance, repair, and installation of signs, pavement markings, striping, traffic calming devices and asset safety enhancements. Knowledge of the safe operation of equipment utilized in the maintenance, repair, and/or operations in a municipal public works utility or related field.Experience providing leadership and supervisory techniques such as: working with staff to create a high performance, service-oriented work environment; coaching for performance improvement and skill development; recognizing performance and behavior patterns. Experience elevating concerns to appropriate senior leadership for further review. Experience applying standard operating procedures and work rules when scheduling work, ability to prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence and/or other written materials with minimal supervision.Experience planning, organizing, and allocating work to staff including scheduling maintenance crews or similar work groups and ensuring work completion.Experience working with multiple stakeholders such as homeowners, contractors, outside agencies and internal working partners.   • A valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record at time of hire.
  • Passing pre-employment drug test and background check at time of hire
An Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications
  • Assess, plan, and organize planned and unplanned work for several crews with varied skillsets.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of signs, pavement markings, traffic calming devices, striping, and reviewing work order drawings or plans.
  • Experience with asset management software, ticketing tracking system such as Maximo, Zendesk or other customer-based platform reporting system is desired.
  • Experience with GIS Mapping systems, traffic control plans, including but not limited to; barricades, signs, and reader boards.

  • All eligible candidates will be considered for all four vacancies within each service area. Candidates will have the opportunity to select their preferred service area during the selection process.
STEP 4: Selection (Interview): Week of August 5, 2024
