Job Description The
Code Enforcement Officer position is an exciting code enforcement opportunity within the Raleigh Water Department. The code enforcement program is responsible for Investigating and enforcing violations of the Raleigh municipal code and handbook, on behalf of the Raleigh Water Director. This is to ensure compliance in the utility system, that serves Raleigh Water customers including merger town communities. The role also provides quality customer service with citizens, contractors, and staff. In this role you will be communicating with other City departments, internal divisions, including City leadership and the public.
The ideal candidate is someone that can handle complex situations, a multitasker, detail oriented, an effective communicator, can work with the public, be able to work independently, a team player, has letter writing skills, able to research data through multiple resources and able to comprehend multiple section of the municipal code. A positive attitude and collaborative spirit are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities - Performs field inspections of residential and commercial projects, and/or utility infrastructure related to assigned trade area; reviews and verifies infrastructure serviceability, safety hazards and/or project compliance with applicable code, regulations, policies, and standards.
- Reviews and documents inspection results and required corrective actions; prepares detailed reports of compliance issues, safety issues, property damage and related costs and/or other related items for follow up action.
- Responds to requests for inspection services or damage reports; plans and prioritizes activities; works with other inspectors and discusses findings and required actions; communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding inspection results and requirements.
- Attends meetings and provides education related to requirements, regulations, codes, parameters, and the correction of issues.
- Maintains and updates reports, records, files, and documentation.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and four years of building trades and/or inspection experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications - North Carolina Inspection certification; certification level based on assignment.
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

ADA and Other Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work, and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light work.
Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
