City of Raleigh North Carolina is Hiring a Plant Maintenance Mechanic Near Raleigh, NC

This position is being re-advertised. Candidates who have previously submitted an application and were referred to the hiring manager are still being considered and do not need to reapply. 
The City of Raleigh is seeking a talented, self-motivated individual with excellent mechanical aptitude and instrumentation experience. The ideal candidate will inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment in support of Raleigh Water’s, industry leading, Bioenergy Recovery Project (BRP) which is currently under construction at the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility (NRRRF).
This position requires a team member who works well in diverse groups and environments and can follow both written and verbal instructions. Familiarity with computerized work order systems is beneficial.

12-hour shifts required, either 7:00am - 7:00pm or 7:00pm - 7:00am permanently assigned, non-rotating. Weekends and holidays are included.
  • Perform visual, olfactory, and auditory checks of assigned areas of the treatment plant to detect any failures of equipment and electronics.
  • Perform facility equipment inspections; monitor distribution tank levels; respond to plant equipment alarms and determine required corrective action; perform repairs and/or notify appropriate maintenance personnel; notify leader or supervisor of critical issues.
  • Perform, collect and/or report sampling and laboratory analysis for process control and/or compliance reporting; monitor chemical levels within established parameters; verify accuracy and reliability of data.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and install machinery and equipment in a high volume, continuous-run working environment.
  • Read and understand mechanical prints, electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Repair and replace AC/DC motors, pumps, gearboxes, and engines. 
  • Perform inspections, adjustments, and replacement of defective parts. 
  • Ensure the mechanical maintenance work area, warehouse, and storage areas remain neat, clean, and orderly. 
  • Prepare job site; assemble and organize equipment, tools, and materials; and maintain a neat, clean, and orderly job site.
  • May be required to perform special tasks during emergency and disaster events.
  • Overtime and participation in an on-call rotation schedule may be required. 
  • Other licenses and certifications may be required. CDL Class A with tanker endorsement, forklift
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and three years of maintenance experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Certification/licensure for water/wastewater operators consistent with North Carolina law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintenance Technologist Certification is preferred within 2 (two) years
Knowledge of:
  • Standard practices, methods, and materials of assigned work.

  • Perform skilled mechanical tasks and maintenance of various equipment; machines, pipes, and valves to include replacement of motors, gearboxes, and shafts on pumps at remote pump stations and at the wastewater treatment plant. 
  • Exhibit recordkeeping skills and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Work on a team and with minimal supervision.
