Job Description

The City of Raleigh is seeking a Benefits Coordinator for the Human Resources Department to support our high-functioning and innovative Benefits and Wellness Team. It takes meticulous detail and planning to organize and coordinate the City's employee benefits programs, innovation, and strategy to anticipate and meet the changing needs of employees and candidates. Our Benefits and Wellness Team team—is one of the cornerstones of our Total Compensation & Benefits strategy. The team monitors benefit trends and researches, analyzes, evaluates, and administers our benefit, leave, and wellness plans and programs. The scope of responsibilities is vast, and they are expert problem solvers with a keen eye for data analytics and process improvement. The individual will join a growing and evolving HR function invested in Total Compensation & Benefits to positively impact our workforce and improve the employee experience. In this position, you'll get to directly impact our employees in meaningful ways that enable them to serve our community with the peace of mind of knowing that our benefits meet their and their family’s needs. This position requires an experienced and highly motivated Human Resources professional with an understanding of the function and role that employee benefits play in recruiting and retaining talent. The successful candidate will be a benefits subject matter expert who can work independently and collaboratively on a wide range of benefits program and administration assignments. You will be part of a cohesive team, working as one team to meet the demanding needs of our organization. We seek a creative, well-rounded teammate who will be an integral part of the continued success and growth of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, reviews, and provides professional administration of an assigned area of human resources; collaborates with leadership and provides advice and recommendations related to assigned area; monitors and audits compliance with policies, regulations, and program objectives
  • Receives and reviews requests and inquiries; advises and provides information to management, staff, and other stakeholders regarding human resource policies, procedures, and practices; conducts interviews and surveys to gather information; interprets and explains policies; and provides program and procedure recommendations to address needs and resolve issues
  • Researches, gathers, analyzes, and evaluates data and information; monitors trends; conducts and participates in studies; summarizes results; prepares management reports to support decision-making and policy development
  • Drafts new or revised policies, procedures, and guidelines; maintains program documents; prepares activity reports, agendas, meeting materials, and correspondence; develops or coordinates the implementation of communication tools and methods.
  • Monitors and maintains system data, files, records, and reporting; monitors and implements information tracking systems
  • Reviews procedures and workflow and provides recommendations for process or program improvements; identifies resource needs; evaluates alternatives and provides recommendations

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in human resources, business or public administration and two years of human resources experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
An HR Certification is preferred.

  • Providing customer service
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the public and others to exchange or convey information sufficiently and to receive work direction
