City of Richmond (CA) is Hiring a Community Ambassador Near Richmond, VA

We are seeking a friendly and outgoing Community Ambassador to represent the City of Richmond and foster strong relationships within the community. The program is designed to help grow and develop City of Richmond residents through personal and professional development and career exploration. Our ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for community engagement, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. City of Richmond Community Ambassador serve as community connectors—directly engaging residents on the issues most pressing to them. Community Ambassadors will assist the City of Richmond in building community and living into the spirit of compassion. 

 What City services will the employee in the position provide? 
Developing Community: While in the program, Community Ambassadors will engage in community events weekly to include but not be limited to hosting community resource tables at events, promoting city services and resources broadly, and identifying gaps of service delivery in the community. Moreover, Community Ambassadors will serve as the face of Richmond City government—connecting residents to critical resources and services while also creating a feedback loop for residents to elevate their concerns. This may include survey distribution and event development and promotion.

Developing You: Community Ambassadors will participate in trainings, workshops, and site visits (field trips) designed to enhance their knowledge of city services and resources while developing both their hard and soft skills. This effort will also give Community Ambassadors a front row preview of potential future employment opportunities.

  • Act as the face of the organization to the community, representing the organization’s values and goals
  • Organize and participate in community events and activities to boost brand awareness and foster positive relationships
  • Engage with the community both offline and online, responding to inquiries and providing assistance as needed
  • Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to create content that engages the community and promotes the organization
  • Gather and provide feedback from the community to the organization to guide future initiatives and improve services
  • Act as a mediator in any conflict or disputes within the community, ensuring a peaceful and inclusive atmosphere
  • Develop and implement strategies for community engagement and growth
  • Provide regular updates and reports on community issues, needs, and interests
  • Identify partnership opportunities with local businesses and other organizations to further community goals
  • Stay informed about developments and trends related to the community

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Self-Starter: Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and proactively identify and address community needs.
  • Community Building: Actively engage with community members to understand their needs and connect them with relevant resources, programs, and opportunities.
  • Networking: Develop and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders, organizations, and influencers to foster collaboration and support.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in planning, promoting, and executing community events, both online and offline, to enhance engagement and participation.
  • Outreach: Conduct outreach activities to identify and engage potential community members, partners, and collaborators.
  • Support and Facilitation: Provide guidance and support to community members, helping them navigate available resources and opportunities.
  • Communication: Ensure effective communication within the community through newsletters, social media, and other channels.
  • Feedback Collection: Gather and report feedback from community members to inform and improve community engagement strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and team members to align community initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of community interactions, outreach activities, and event participation, and provide regular reports to the Community Engagement Manager.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in community engagement, customer service, public relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and participating in community events, both online and offline.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: Working conditions may include exposure to travel to other locations within the City of Richmond as well as outside of the City of Richmond; exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, etc.; atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation; inadequate lighting; intense noise; and environmental hazards such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly finger, talk, hear, and see. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
