Description
Under limited supervision, the Library Associate provides excellent customer service and performs varied clerical work related to the operation in all areas of a library.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties

  • Creates and updates library card records using a comprehensive knowledge of the various types of accounts and policies; assists users with the use of self-service technology; handles fines and refunds; disseminates accurate information to patrons; calls for backup assistance as necessary.
  • Checks in and carts materials following safety and ergonomic guidelines.
  • Shelves returned items and carries out shelf maintenance by ensuring that items are loaded onto shelving carts correctly; shifting items on the shelves for balance and safety; reads shelves for accurate shelving in assigned areas.
  • Maintains unique assigned tasks including maintaining regular displays such as new books and staff picks; maintaining lost and found items and library cards; managing temporary patron hold shelf; responding to patron's basic email requests; managing reports such as trace and incomplete items.
Experience and Training

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency is required.
  • Six (6) months experience in a customer service setting required.
  • One year of experience in a library setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern office software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Outlook) required.
  • Knowledge of library technology and software preferred.
