City Of Round Rock is Hiring a Community Risk Specialist Near Round Rock, TX

Supports the Community Risk Reduction Program by engaging with citizens in various environments, including residential settings. Responsibilities include installing smoke detectors and other safety hardware, addressing fire and life safety issues within citizens' residences, offering guidance to access support from partners and non-profit organizations, overseeing the maintenance of the Public Access AED Program and conducting monthly checks, and meeting with the public in an educational capacity.
  • Conducts thorough home safety surveys to ensure life safety by identifying risks and unsafe practices that could lead to emergency situations or quality of life issues. May install smoke detectors, Carbon Monoxide alarms, handrails, or other life safety equipment.
  • Initiates follow-up visits with clients after self-reports or referrals from public safety personnel to monitor progress and enhance the quality of life for citizens. Coordinates with partner organizations to achieve objectives. Provides citizens with a treatment plan tailored to individual needs and circumstances.
  • Engages with various community groups, including homeowners associations, civic organizations, community foundations, civic clubs, church groups, social clubs, and charities, to educate citizens on home fire and life safety, quality of life enhancements, and meeting functional and mobility needs. Conducts training classes for the public on topics such as CPR, and Stop the Bleed.
  • Performs monthly operational checks on Public Access AEDs, including monitoring expiration dates for pads, batteries, and Narcan, and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Utilizes various data gathering platforms, including Microsoft Suite products, Reporting Management System(RMS), Public Safety CAD, and ESRI, to research and analyze data related to citizen challenges and needs.
  • Collaborates with Emergency Management teams as needed during incidents and emergencies to address the specific needs of elderly and disabled individuals.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year training beyond high school.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in Fire and Life Safety is required. 
    Experience in public safety and/or emergency medical care services within a community health center or clinic is preferred. Familiarity with fire and life safety procedures is preferred.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver's license is required.
  • CJIS certification or ability to obtain within one (1) month of hire date is required.
  • TXDPS background check for CJIS or ability to obtain within one (1) month of date is required.
  • Ability to obtain Basic Fire and Life Safety Educator I Certification (TEEX/TCFP- NFPA 1035) OR its equivalent, within one year of hire date.
