This posting is subject to close after 14 days This is semi-skilled work performing routine preventative maintenance and basic repair work to motorized equipment under general supervision. Major Duties
Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs to cars, trucks and heavy equipment such as jump starts, changing of lights, wipers, tires, minor repair of electrical wiring, tail lamps, headlamps, spotlights, and component change such as alternators, starters, and "hang on parts".
Performs all types of lubrication, filter service and safety inspections on light, medium and heavy equipment, rubbish packers, loaders, etc.
Performs light body component work such as replacement of mirrors, door handles etc., and washing and waxing of vehicles.
Picks Up and delivers vehicles to various locations, picks up parts, and operates a service truck.
Performs routine shop and tool clean-up and maintenance.
Performs daily electronic data entry and accesses information concerning work orders.
May assist mechanics in heavy-duty repairs as requested.
Works with computers, diagnostic Scanners, battery chargers and other small testing devices.
Works with service specifications from service manuals and online.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of one (1) year of automotive repair education from a recognized institution.
Alternatively, possess State mechanic certification or NIASE certification in at least two (2) automobile truck repair categories, in place of the one (1) year of automotive school requirement.
Two years of experiences performing light automotive maintenance and repair.
Must obtain State mechanic certification or NIASE certification within one (1) year of hire, focusing on automobile and light truck repair categories: engine repair, front end, suspension and steering systems, brakes and braking systems, and electrical systems.
Basic welding skills or completion of high school beginning welding course.
Proficiency in diagnosing minor repairs.
Ability to read and understand service manuals and instructions.
Capable of identifying repair needs and communicating them to the Fleet Maintenance Technician II.
Familiarity with or willingness to learn and understand Dossier or other fleet maintenance and job/work order software.
Possession of a valid State of Michigan driver's license, with the ability to obtain a CDL Class A with N endorsement within six (6) months of hire date.
Supplemental Information
Must be able to use proper protective equipment including respirators.
Must be able to lift heavy equipment up to 70 pounds.
Must be able to climb ladders and/or work from awkward positions.
Daily exposure to dust and noise.
Must be able to lift, bend, stretch, squat or kneel in handling parts and equipment for repairs and installations.
