The City of Salisbury is seeking a qualified individual to oversee programs that protect the wastewater collection system and treatment plants to ensure that all environmental regulations and permit requirements are met or exceeded. Primary job duties are to supervise and provide technical assistance related to the activities of a wastewater laboratory, an industrial pretreatment program, and a FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) program. This position serves as Compliance Officer and will participate in various State inspections, monitor changes to state and federal regulations, and maintain and update departmental plans, ordinances and SOPs as needed. Other duties include investigating complaints and taking corrective action as necessary; preparing and managing a budget; and overseeing the development and distribution of public education materials.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in wastewater treatment plant or lab operations, or closely related field.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or related field preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to wastewater collection, treatment and discharge.

• Valid NC driver’s license. * Possession of NC Wastewater Lab Analyst 1 certification, or ability to obtain within 18 months.

• Possession of NC Biological Wastewater Treatment certification preferred.

Hiring range: $62,375.18 - $89,196.51 (Depending on Experience)

$2,000 sign-on bonus to be paid as a lump sum after the completion of a successful probationary period.
