City of San Angelo Texas is Hiring a BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (FACILITIES MAINTENANCE) Near San Angelo, TX

Position will be open until filled.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs tasks to repair and maintain City facilities, including basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and electrical work.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works independently and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned project, purchases of materials are subject to work order assignments and must be made within Purchasing Division guidelines.
  • Troubleshoots facility problems and maintenance issues and develops cost-effective solutions.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical systems; repairs and rebuilds interior structures and components as needed; repairs external structures and components as needed.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
  • Maintains grounds as needed.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies, investigates and reports mechanical, electrical and plumbing problems requiring additional repair by contracted trades persons.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed.
  • Reports problems and emergency situations.
  • Maintains and submits, on a timely basis, all records of services performed, time and material costs.
  • Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Ensures that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, schedules can change due to seasonal changes and department needs. On-call status is rotating weekends; must respond to in-coming phone calls for service within 30 minutes and be on-site of the called-in location within one hour, unless the request for service demands an immediate onsite response.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and three years' experience in building maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure, apply for and receive a Texas Driver license in accordance with City Policy.
  • Specific technical skills, training and certifications may be required.

Required Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
  • Tools and equipment used in journeyman level, facilities and grounds maintenance; to include, but not be limited to: electrical testing meters (and accessories), table saws, planers, radial arm saws, etc.
  • Local, state and Federal building codes and regulations.
  • Operation, maintenance, repair, and safety standards for motorized equipment, towed trailers, and assigned vehicles or equipment.

Required Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining tools and city equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Following and maintaining safety standards.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Required Ability in:

  • Prioritizing assigned work in a responsible manner.
  • Demonstrating good oral and written communications.
  • Following written and oral instructions.
  • Communicating with co-workers and the general public.
  • Working with little or no supervision.
  • Learning new maintenance techniques in response to expanding technology related facilities maintenance.
  • Operating assigned vehicles and safely tow-trailers.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors, which includes extreme weather conditions.
  • Required to pass a physical with the ability to carry 40 lbs. and push and pull 150 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb fixed or portable ladders, and safely operate various pieces of equipment, including man-lifts.
  • Must be able to work in construction type environments (as required).
  • Other duties as needed.
