Manages the daily operations of the Accounting Division, oversees accounts payable, payroll, general ledger and fixed assets. Responsibilities include: audit payroll; ensure all Federal and State taxes are submitted; prepare quarterly payroll reports and annual W-2s; verify W-2 totals; verify timesheets to check for proper coding; maintain fixed asset inventory; post new acquisitions, transfers, and disposals; conducts periodic physical inventory; assign useful lives to assets to calculate depreciation; run depreciation reports; post general ledger entries and reconcile subsidiary records; maintain financial records for trust fund; prepare financial statements; prepare and submit data to track compliance with Federal healthcare requirements; review AP checks for accuracy; assist with various financial transactions, records preparation, and maintenance; maintain general accounts requiring segregation of monies and expenditures into a number of accounts involving Federal, State, and local funds; maintain contact with department and division managers regarding accounting of funds to include review and remediation of overspent accounts; prepare and file various transaction documents and reports; supervise division personnel; and other accounting duties.
Hours: Monday – Friday; first shift.
To Compete in the Selection Process: Bachelor's degree with coursework in accounting, finance, or related field and considerable experience in public finance in an automated fiscal or accounting environment including some supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have knowledge of: governmental accounting and budgeting principles, rules, and regulations; accounting terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment; principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting. Must have experience with personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and follow work procedure; post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; understand and apply laws and established policies to the maintenance of financial records; prepare complete and accurate reports from accounting data; analyze reporting data and make rational recommendations; verify accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
