Responsible for the maintenance and repair of specialized machinery and equipment at the water and/or treatment plant and related facilities. Performs repairs on pump motors and related equipment used for water and treatment; uses hand, bench and machine tools in the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, and valves; replaces and repairs bearings, shafts, sleeves and other parts; makes periodic inspections of equipment; adjust, repairs and replaces parts; lubricates and changes oil in equipment; acts as operator in charge of pump station as qualified; performs minor carpentry tasks in connection with maintenance tasks; cleans and paints plant equipment; and performs building and grounds keeping tasks as assigned.
Hours: Monday-Friday; first shift. Will be required to work outside of normal working hours in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations.
To Compete in the Selection Process: High school diploma/GED with additional coursework and/or training in the mechanical trade with some experience in water and/or wastewater treatment plant maintenance work required.Special Requirements: Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License and possession of or the ability to obtain Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification within 18 months of hire.
