GENERAL PURPOSE
Under direct supervision, maintain street rights-of-way and sanitary sewer system, including construction work in the general areas of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, water systems, sewer systems, streets and traffic signage maintenance. Performs right-of-way landscape maintenance, operates light power equipment, assists in the repair and the maintenance of tools and equipment.

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform the various street, vehicle, facility and open space maintenance tasks and services.

High school diploma or equivalent; education sufficient to read, write and understand directions in English, and to successfully meet and deal with the public and other employees; one year of skilled experience in the construction and maintenance or related labor, or semi-skilled work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid California driver's license; Class "C" or higher, obtain within 12 months of date of employment and hold a Class "B" driver's license in the State of California. Obtain a level 1 sewer collection certification within 12 months of date of hire. Must obtain an American Red Cross certificate in First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and the Community or equivalent within three months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. This job involves frequent lifting of 35-50 pounds with occasional lifting of up to 75-100 or more. This is often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces or at heights above the ground.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use oral communication skills; read and file material alphabetically or numerically; work with constant interruptions; and interact with employees, management, and others encountered in the course of work; occasionally subject to conflicts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, traffic, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
