GENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor, responsible for promoting the health and well-being of City residents according to an established public health program by providing nursing care in clinics, homes, schools and other designated areas; promoting compliance with City and State sanitary and environmental regulations; collecting and interpreting data for assigned area and planning, implementing and evaluating interventions for the overall health of the City based on data collected.This position qualifies as emergency personnel as permitted by Wis. Stat. Sec. 66.0502. SHIFT/HOURS Generally 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.; 24 hour on-call status; additional time as the job dictates. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general guidance and direction of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide public health nursing services in homes, clinics, schools and specially designated areas.Assist individuals and families in identifying their health needs and collaborate with them in developing plans to meet those needs; mobilize available community resources to compliment facility resources. Teach prevention and control of communicable disease. Direct, coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of care rendered by self and others.Prepare, review and maintain records, reports and statistical data according to agency policy.Accept responsibility for continued professional growth; participate in continuing education and in-service programs. Understand and adhere to organizational lines of authority. Develop, review and assess public health educational materials.Participate in emergency preparedness education and activities. In the absence of the Public Health Administrator, it may be necessary for the public health nurse to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Administrator. Maintain prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance. Other duties as directed.
