Incumbents in this position are responsible for directing the daily activities of Network Systems Services personnel as well as coordinating major projects and overseeing the overall network infrastructure for SLMPD.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Police Department’s IT Help Desk and ensure prompt resolution of service tickets coming from a base of 2200 users.
- Consult with users regarding IT hardware needs and pre-approve purchase of any network devices.
- Oversee user account management, both network (Active Directory) accounts and Email (Office 365) accounts and ensure compliance with account management policies.
- Supervise staff who support/maintain the platform (VMWare) for on-prem software applications.
- Supervise projects which involve configuring/maintaining all network routers/switches/firewalls.
- Oversee creation and enforcement of policies in network security, adherence to CJIS/HIPAA/PCI regulations and vulnerability/patch management.
- Monitor security alerts, and ensure staff is implementing recommended network configurations to protect against security threats.
- Supervise tech support staff responsible for configuring and operating network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, System Center, or Cisco DNA.
- Oversee automatic network asset and topology discovery and ensure customer adherence to network device policies.
- Develop and maintain technical documents, analysis, and reports regarding the work outputs of the tech support team.
- Present briefings to senior customer management, customer stakeholders, and Police brass.

Requires the ability to implement decisions based on such data, and oversee the execution of these decisions.

- Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as personal computers, servers, LAN/WAN hardware, fiber optic test gear and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.

- Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull moderately heavy objects and materials, twenty to fifty pounds, such as moving personal computers or file servers. Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling in order to install equipment and cable.
- Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks, such as distinguishing computer components.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Programming, or a related field; plus five years of information technology experience in network administration, operations, and maintenance, including some experience as a supervisor or lead for network administration teams. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferences:
Experience configuring and maintaining routers/switches/firewalls. Experience configuring and operating network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, System Center, or Cisco DNA. Network certifications in at least two of the following: Cisco Certified Network Administrator (Data Center, Routing and Switching, or Security), CompTIA Network Certification, CompTIA Server Certification and/or CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner.

City Residence Preference Points

City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
