Position Description

The City of Sugar Land is seeking a Part-time Kennel Technician in the Environmental and Neighborhood Service Department

Summary of Duties

  • Responsible for the feeding, walking, bathing, and exercising of all sugar land animals in the Shelter’s care.
  • Assist the veterinary technician with administration of medications indicated by the Veterinarian.
  • Clean up after animals both inside the facility and outside the shelter. This includes a thorough cleaning of each kennel, cat cage and all wildlife rooms in use.
  • Maintain the shelter by performing tasks including, sweeping, and mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, and checking equipment and supplies.
  • Stock supplies as needed and add items to shopping list when the supply is running low.
  • Assist members of staff with handling, restraining and comforting animals as animals are brought in by visitors or during daily activities.
  • Be available on weekends and holidays to fill in at the shelter.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal Education:

  • High School or GED Certificate required.
Relatable Work Experience:
  • At least on year of progressively responsible experience working with animals.
  • Data entry or administrative experience is preferred.
  • Municipal Experience is preferred.
Training (License and/or Certification):
  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License.
