City of Temple Terrace is Hiring a Librarian I Near Temple, FL

STARTING SALARY: $21.57 - $23.73 per hour
POSITION: Librarian I
DEPT: Leisure Services – Library

This is entry level professional library work involving a wide variety of public, technical, and clerical services. Responsibilities include instructing and assisting library patrons; performing reference and reader’s advisory services; collection development and management; the supervision of the children’s library service; supervising support staff; planning and implementing library programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, and procedures of professional library work.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of reference sources.
  • Working knowledge of Dewey Decimal System.
  • Ability to assist patrons in using or accessing technology.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and evaluate data and prepare written reports.
  • Ability to accurately sort, file, and/or retrieve library materials using alphabetical, numerical, and chronological systems.
  • Ability to select appropriate materials for children.
  • Ability to direct the work of support staff and volunteers.
  • Proficient in library systems and computer software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver items weighing up to 30 pounds; stand, bend, reach, lift; sit, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Training, Certification, and Experience

  • Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science.
  • Minimum of one-year library experience.
  • Experience with Integrated Library System (ILS) preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Schedule includes nights and weekends.

Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.

The City of Temple Terrace is a drug-free workplace.
