POSITION: RECREATION LEADER I Youth Programs Part Time

POSITION NO: 5.230

DEPT: Leisure Services – P&R

This is beginning level work in the Leisure Services Department’s Parks and Recreation Division. Responsibilities include performing or assisting in a variety of recreational activities for children enrolled in the After-School Program and Summer Youth Program. Performs tasks ascertained from previous experience or by on-the-job training. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

· Knowledge of the general rules and regulations governing recreational activities.

· Working knowledge of recreational activities, first-aid methods, and safety precautions.

· Ability to learn and apply departmental and City rules and regulations.

· Ability to instruct participants in team sports fundamentals or specialized recreational activities; lead assigned recreational activities.

· Ability to manage a group of children through positive reinforcement and clear communication of rules, procedures, and expectations.

· Ability to consistently and calmly enforce established rules, procedures, and expectations.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patrons, and the public; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact; address and resolve minor disciplinary problems.

· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Training and Experience

· Experience in organized or specialized recreational activities.

· Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

· Possess (or ability to obtain within six months of employment) Multi-Media First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications.

· Minimum age, 16 years.

· Valid Florida driver’s license.

Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.
