The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of Facilities Maintenance Crew Chief in the Public Works Department. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City's utilities. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines, particularly in the management of utilities operations. The Supervisor should be proficient in executing tasks that align with agency regulations to include TCEQ, Railroad Commision, Texas Water Development Board, Environmental Protection Agency and others

  • Utilities Operators and Maintenance Crews

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Education High School diploma/GED or equivalent

Experience Minimum of four years of previous relevant work experience is required.

Certifications

Licensing TCEQ Class B Wastewater Operator license required, Class A Wastewater Operator license preferred. Class B Water Operator license also preferred,

Natural Gas Operator Qualification preferred.

Utilities Foreman 's role within the big picture of the City's overall success.

Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City's utilities. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines, particularly in the management of utilities operations. The Supervisor should be proficient in executing tasks that align with agency regulations to include TCEQ, Railroad Commision, Texas Water Development Board, Environmental Protection Agency and others.

Utilities Foreman functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Selects, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of crews of employees engage in the installation, maintenance and repairs of City utility systems
  • Supervises and participates in work concerned with the installation, maintenance and repair of water production, water distribution, wastewater treatment, wastewater collection and natural gas distribution.
  • Instructs assigned personnel in proper techniques for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and appurtenances used in maintaining distribution, collection, and production systems.
  • Oversees and participates in the installation and repairs of water mains, hydrants and other activities associated with water system production and maintenance.
  • Oversees and participates in the installation and repairs of sanitary sewer lines and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Contacts property owners and residents in areas where equipment and crews will be working to make necessary arrangements for installation and maintenance activities.
  • Answers questions regarding information needed or inquiries regarding maintenance activities. Reports actions and results to supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency calls, assigns and assists as needed to correct problems. Performs related duties as required.
  • Responsible for crew performance meeting established quality and safety standards.
  • Team Supervision: Direct and manage utilities staff, ensuring effective and efficient operations. Assign, supervise, and coordinate maintenance and repairs to utilities systems, to include but not limited to collection lines, manholes/covers, lift stations, force mains, water wells, water meters, water lines, gas meters, gas lines and gas gates
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and repair of facility equipment. Procure quotes for repair and maintenance activities from different vendors and contractors.
  • Facility Upgrades: Collaborate with engineers and contractors, making recommendations for future improvements and upgrades for facility operations and maintenance.
  • Communication: Respond to daily emails and phone calls, ensuring effective communication with various stakeholders. Coordinate smoothly with contractors for scheduled work and maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

  • Strong leadership and communication abilities, ensuring smooth operations and compliance. Capable of making decisions that enhance the efficiency of the utility systems and collaborating effectively with engineers, contractors, and vendors.

Pumps, Motors, Crane truck, backhoe and front end loader. Computer skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SCADA and Assest mangement Software.
