City of Union City Government is Hiring an Accounting Tech III Near Union, GA

General Duties And Responsibilities
  • To support the vision, mission and guiding principles of the City.
  • While performing any procedure, all associates and contract personnel must observe applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
  • Attend and participate in training opportunities and seminars relevant to this position.
  • Adhere to appropriate City operating procedures, benefit rules, employment, and safety policies/practices.
  • Under direction, performs administrative duties in the City’s Finance Department, including filing documents, answering phones, maintaining calendars, travel arrangements, scanning documents, assisting internal and external customers, updating business information, reviewing reports, preparing minutes, and organizing files and performs related duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain current and accurate balances of the general and subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules for a variety of accounts and analysis transactions;
  • Prepare and key Journal Entries into the Financial system
  • Assist in loading new budgets into the financial system
  • Assist Finance Director with the annual audit by preparing work papers, schedule and analyzing account balances;
  • Prepare special reports and financial analysis as requested by the Finance Director;
  • Participate in the development and administration of the City’s budget.
  • Process all NSF Checks and maintain subsidiary ledger;
  • Process annual renewals for divisions within the department
  • Assist with billing of utilities and Account receivables
  • Assist with website maintenance;
  • Serves as backup for Accounting Technician II
  • Create and maintain various accounting sub ledgers and spreadsheets
  • Track and maintain Performance Measures and fast facts for the Department
  • Assist in writing and preparation of policies and procedures
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Composes, proofreads, and types correspondence, memoranda, reports, and presentations
  • Create and maintain filing system and order office supplies
  • Assist in month and year end closing process
  • Maintain Department Budget and track spending
  • Customer Service, heavy telephones, and data entry
  • Prepare and maintain forms and letters
  • Calendar maintenance and Agenda preparation
  • Assist in the preparation of the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)
  • Run errands within the department as needed
  • Perform Executive administrative duties for the Finance Director
Additional Duties And Responsibilities
  • Any other duties as assigned.
JOB SCOPE
Job has recurring work situations involving high degrees of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of available resources is high. Errors in judgment could cause disruptions to the City’s mission and adversely impact attainment of the City’s goals. Incumbent operates independently but results are monitored by the Board of Trustees. Content of work priorities are largely self determined.

Education And Experience
  • Any combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
  • A typical way of obtaining these qualifications is a high school diploma; and Three years Government Experience
Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesWorking knowledge of:
  • Operate a computer and a variety of word processing, spreadsheet and software applications, including financial and accounting programs
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Follow written and oral directions
  • Effectively organize assigned tasks and work within deadlines
  • Make sound judgments within established guidelines
  • Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of municipal government accounting/finance experience
  • Associates Degree in Business administration or similar field
