Parks Maintenance SupervisorParks, Recreation, & Cultural Services DepartmentPosted June 12, 2024 The City of Valdez Parks & Recreation department is hiring a Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Under general supervision of the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Director, this position develops and implements parks management and maintenance plans to assure that park facilities are properly maintained.The successful applicant should have the skill and ability to: Supervise park maintenance programs, activities, and staff.Develop and implement maintenance management plans for park facilities.Supervise and perform the grooming & maintenance of ice rink, cross-country ski and snow machine trails.Supervise the management of City campgrounds, ball fields, and oversees lawn maintenance contracts.Develop and monitor budgets.Collect statistical information and compile data for reports. Present findings Parks & Recreation Commission.Assist and interact with state and local service organizations, other City departments, and outside organizations and agencies.Oversee Cemetery operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A High school diploma or GED, Five (5) years' experience in landscaping and parks maintenance, Must possess and maintain a valid Alaska Drivers License. Within 12 months of hire must obtain Certified Playground Inspector certification. Work is performed in office & outdoor environments. Must be able to lift 50lb and walk/snowshoe long distances in adverse weather condition. This is a full-time, fully benefited position working 37.5 hours per week. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the park maintenance program; recruits, trains, and supervises seasonal employees and contractors; sets work priorities and prepares work schedules for maintenance and litter patrol crews.Oversees park maintenance activities; develops and evaluates goals and objectives; assures compliance with safety standards and procedures.Develops and implements maintenance management plan for park facilities; assists with Capital Improvement Program project planning; performs capital grant writing.Supervises and performs the grooming and maintenance of ice rink, cross-country ski and snowmachine trails; operates heavy equipment as required, including Piston Bully.Supervises management of City campgrounds and ball fields; oversees lawn maintenance contract. Develops and monitors budgets; develops and reviews special and recurring reports and contracts.Maintains supplies inventory.Collects statistical information and compiles data for reports. Presents findings Parks & Recreation Commission.Assists and interacts with state and local service organizations, other City departments, and outside organizations and businesses. Oversees Cemetery operations.Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of: City and Department policies and procedures.Municipal parks maintenance principles and techniques.Capital project development and grant writing. Skill in: Assessing, prioritizing and delegating multiple tasks and projects.Supervision and coordination of contracted and seasonal maintenance employees.
