General Statement of Job
Responds to a variety of emergency incidents.
City Expectations:
Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1. Performs all the functions of a Paramedic. Follows EMS protocols under the direction of the Medical Director.
2. Drives and operates a rescue ambulance and other equipment.
3. Conducts periodic public health and community safety surveys, as required.
4. Inspects, attends to, and performs preventive maintenance to emergency equipment and stations as required.
5. Provides other aspects of non-emergency care as part of a Mobile Integrated Healthcare response unit.
6. Assist in non-firefighting functions on emergency runs as directed by on scene supervisor.
Examples are changing SCBA bottles, patient care inside a vehicle during active extrication, establishing rehab sector, gross decontamination, command support and any additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for efficient and safe responses to fire department operations. Responsible in work to assigned Battalion Chief.
Minimum Education and Training
High school graduate and successful completion of prescribed training standards. Must have current Paramedic license issued by the State of Florida, current American Heart Association CPR card, and a current American Heart Association ACLS card.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements:
Ability to operate apparatus and equipment as required. Must be able to maintain current Florida certification as a Paramedic. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations. Must meet the State of Florida Chapter 401 requirements for driving.
Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with Central Square Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of the current versions of Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Fire Department.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to pass physical examination at any time. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather for prolonged periods of time. Must be capable of functioning in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Reasonable accommodation will be considered for applicants with physical disabilities.
Working Conditions:
Works a 40-hour week, but must be available to work all hours in the event of an emergency. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather conditions. Newly hired Paramedics are in probationary status for one year from date of hire.

It is understood that every incidental duty connected with operations enumerated in the job description is not always specifically described, and employees, at the discretion of the City, may be required to perform duties not within their job descriptions.
