The City of Walker is seeking candidates to fill the position of full-time Public Works Employee.

Walker is located on Leech Lake, the third largest lake in Minnesota, and has a population of 980 full-time residents. Walker is a tourist destination in all seasons, with great fishing, hunting, walking/biking/snowmobile trails, community events and live music, and a multitude of downtown shops and restaurants.

Public Works Employees perform non-supervisory work to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of municipal streets, parks, water, sewer, and stormwater systems, cemetery and airport operations, and locating utilities. The Walker Public Works Department consists of one Public Works Director and three Public Works Employees.

The minimum requirements include having a High School Diploma or equivalent, Minnesota Class B CDL endorsement driver’s license, and the ability to acquire a Class D water license within two years of employment. Obtaining a Class C water license and Class D sewer license after the first two years of employment will be accompanied by pay increases.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous local government public works experience. Applicant must be able to pass a background check and drug and alcohol pre-employment tests.

The starting wage is $23.50 with a 3% increase after a successful 6-month probationary period. Wage is negotiable for applicants who already have water and/or sewer licenses.
