EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Outreach Community Engagement Librarian-Full Time
The Waukesha Public Library seeks an outgoing and engaging fulltime Community Engagement Librarian who will provide internal programs for all ages, but primarily adult programs, and assist patrons with their use of the library at the public service desks. The ideal candidate is customer-service focused, organized, and enjoys helping others.

The Library is seeking a candidate whose talents, knowledge and customer service skills can take our services to the next level. We would love to hear from candidates who embrace change while focusing on evolving community needs.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The individual in this position:

  • Develops and presents Library-wide programs and events, both internal and external, for children, parents, caregivers, teens and adult groups; including summer reading programs, story times, book discussions, Waukesha Reads, class visits, and group tours.
  • Participates in providing outreach services to the community; including programs and events that foster community engagement. Evaluates programs and outreach opportunities using quantitative and qualitative data and makes changes to improve the quality, effectiveness or efficiency of program activities or Outreach.
  • Ensures that inclusive and equitable practices are in place so that all are welcome in the Library.
  • Cultivates partnerships, both internal and external, to provide the best services to the community. Builds deeper relationships with communities that are typically underserved, underrepresented and underrecognized.
  • Promotes awareness of library resources, library services, programs and learning opportunities. Promotes interest in the library as a community resource by visiting and speaking to school, civic, cultural, and social organizations.
  • Encourages community conversations that help develop a thorough understanding of community needs and future aspirations from diverse stakeholders.
  • Coordinates the Library's volunteer program by recruiting, approving, and retaining library volunteers to help fulfill the library's vision and mission.
  • Plans and presents educational workshops and tours for special groups, classes and staff.
  • May train and supervise clerical, paraprofessional and subordinate professionals in specific tasks and/or lead projects.
  • Stays current with library programming trends and developments by reviewing publications, taking professional development classes and attending professional conferences.
  • Assists patrons of all ages in their use of the library at any public service desk.
  • Researches and provides answers to reference questions, including those of a difficult or involved nature. Questions may be received and responded to in person, by phone or electronically.
  • Provides readers' advisory services for children, teens and adults.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in library science or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, multitasking and prioritizing workload.
  • Ability to analyze problems, troubleshoot and implement solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
