City of West Allis is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near West, WI

Description

Are a skilled front-end loader and other motorized equipment operator? Do you like variety in work assignments using a wide range of equipment? If so, then this is the position for you! Working for the City of West Allis will give you a stable and rewarding career.
The ideal candidate for this position is a high energy, positive thinking individual that is comfortable utilizing technology and learning new equipment. Must be adaptable to the changing needs and priorities of the department and the City.
Third Shift: Sunday - Thursday 11pm-7am

Examples of Duties

The primary duties of this position involve operating various types of equipment and machinery including: truck, tandem, large rubber tire end loader, street sweeper, snow blower for front-end loader, Dickey John salt spreading system and refuse or recycling packers.
Assists in snow removal, salt and sanding operations, performs routine manual labor associated with equipment operation in construction maintenance and service activities, keeps work records and compiles related reports.
This position is involved with construction, maintenance and service activities for which the department is responsible.

Qualifications

This position requires emotional intelligence, work ethic, accountability, and initiative to effectively perform the duties.
Education, Training and Experience Required:

  • High school graduate/equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of recent work experience in the operation of Front End Loaders.
  • Ability to learn and operate specialized municipal equipment such as street sweeper, specialized snow removal equipment etc.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (Class B,C with airbrakes).
  • Tanker (N) endorsement to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Good driving record per City policy.

Physical Job Demands:
Possess the physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to, the ability to continuously stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, climb, twist, stoop, crawl, stretch, squat, lift, reach, push, pull, enter and exit City truck and equipment, etc.
Possess the physical capacity to perform light to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time (physical requirements are dependent upon work assigned) including but not limited to, the duties generalized listed below:
Ability to withstand exposure to variable and unfavorable weather and working conditions including but not limited to temperature variations and extremes, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, electrical current, vehicular traffic and/or dust.

Benefits include: Time off Bank with the ability to accrue up to 25 days in one year to be used at your discretion with management approval; nine (9) paid holidays; eligibility for health insurance the first of the month following thirty (30) days of service with choice of a PPO Plan or High Deductible Health Plan (with optional participation in a Health Savings Account) – both plans are contributory and cover the employee and his/her family; fully paid dental insurance covering the employee and his/her family, with eligibility the first of the first of the month following thirty (30) days of service; a dual pension system comprised of the Wisconsin Retirement Fund* and Federal Social Security (both of which are contributory); a fully paid Life Insurance Program* with coverage in the amount of the employee's annual salary adjusted to the next highest one thousand dollars, with the option for additional coverage; an educational reimbursement plan for the pursuit of job related courses including personal and professional training opportunities and professional organization memberships; voluntary benefit programs consisting of vision, Flexible Spending Benefits for Dependent Care and Medical Reimbursement, Section 457: Deferred Compensation, Treasury Direct Payroll Savings Plan for Savings Bonds, and other various benefits including, but not limited to, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Employee Wellness Program, Armed Services Reserve Training, and Federal Loan Program.
