City of Westerville, OH is Hiring a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Near Westerville, OH

Description

This position is open until filled. Applications are being reviewed as they are received.
This is skilled mechanical and supervisory work in the preventive maintenance and repair of city owned vehicles and equipment. Work involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of all city vehicles and performing when necessary,skilled tasks in the preventative maintenance and mechanical repair of a variety of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and specialized equipment. Work includes preventative maintenance, diagnosis and repair of City owned vehicles and equipment.

SUPERVISION

Employee works under general supervision of the Street and Fleet Superintendent. Work is performed using independent judgment in assigning work orders and oversees work being done. Additional guidance is provided through city and department regulations. Supervision is exercised over mechanics and support staff. Work is reviewed through results obtained and through performance appraisals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

(May not include all duties performed.)

  • Schedules maintenance work on city vehicles and equipment; directs and prioritizes jobs; assigns mechanics; oversees work being performed; determines where to purchase needed parts; submits purchase orders; utilizes a computer to open work orders and track maintenance work on vehicles and equipment.
  • Prioritizes, assigns and oversees work; ensures compliance with all established policies, safety procedures, rules and regulations; conducts meetings; assists with problem solving; conducts performance evaluations; makes pay recommendations; interviews, promotes, and handles disciplinary actions, as needed.
  • Reviews with Service Department Director budget, expenses, projections for overhead, and needs for department equipment.
  • Communicates with Department Heads when major expense is required for repairs; determines appropriate course of action to be taken.
  • Repairs a variety of city owned vehicles and heavy equipment; performs monthly preventative maintenance; makes scheduled and unscheduled repairs on equipment.
  • Operates various equipment while performing preventative maintenance or repairs such as drill presses, diagnostic equipment, welder, torches, brake lathe, computer analyzer, on-board computer, a/c recycler, floor jacks, hoists, overhead crane, tire machine to balance tires, power grinders, saws, air equipment, impact wrenches, chisels, drills, and hand tools etc.
  • Schedule and delivers vehicles for warranty and sublet repairs; picks up and delivers parts to the garage, when needed.
  • Performs repairs, when necessary on equipment used in the garage; performs record maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean work environment in shop area.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with vendors, outside agencies, employees, departments, suppliers; maintains a professional working relationship with other repair centers; meets with sales people; orders supplies.
  • Reviews trade publications and bulletins to keep abreast of developments in the field.
  • Attends meeting, seminars, conferences etc, when requested.
  • Completes performance reviews for staff.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
  • Participates in fleet selection and recommendations for replacement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Possession of a high school diploma and eight years of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of vehicle and mechanical equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, terminology, and techniques used in the diagnosis, repair andmaintenance of equipment and vehicles.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of the administrative policies and procedures of the municipal government and operations of a garage.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of employee supervision.
  • Ability to schedule maintenance work and repairs.
  • Ability to operate a computer for tracking preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to diagnose defects in equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to drive various types of vehicles.
  • Ability to interpret and work from service manuals, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Ability to maneuver in and around vehicles and equipment with hands and body
  • Ability to climb up into large trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to visually detect leaks, hairline cracks, breaks in engine and automotive parts.
  • Ability to use wrenches to pull, remove, tighten, and extract hydraulic and other automotive parts.
  • Ability to lay on creeper and work underneath automotive vehicles.
  • Ability to use welding equipment to fabricate parts.
  • Ability to use hydraulic jacks both manually and under power.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL by the end of the first 12 months of employment.

HEALTH BENEFITS
Employees pay 15% of the monthly medical insurance premium through United Healthcare which includes prescription coverage. Employee, Employee plus child(ren), Employee plus spouse and family coverage is available. However, a spouse who has affordable health care coverage through their employer must elect that coverage as primary. The City health care plan is a high deductible healthcare plan.
HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT
Annually, the City will deposit 85% of your health insurance deductible amount into an HSA account in your name.
VISION AND DENTAL
The City pays 100% of the premium for dental and vision. Coverage levels will be explained in further detail at time of hire.
LIFE INSURANCE
The City pays 100% of the premium on a $100,000 life insurance policy for employee and $10,000 for spouse and $5,000 for child.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.
VACATION
New employees accrue two weeks of paid vacation every year. Vacation time increases with length of service time.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Employees receive 6 prorated days of personal leave annually.
