SEASONAL MAINTENANCE CREW SUPERVISOR

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS

CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the Seasonal Maintenance Crew Supervisor for the Parks Division within the Department of Public Works and Parks.

Under the direction of the Seasonal Maintenance Director,

the position is responsible for completing maintenance tasks and will supervise small maintenance crews and coach seasonal staff in their daily work assignments.

The employee will work in accordance with City of Worcester standard park / cemetery maintenance practices & procedures.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS

  • Perform general landscaping duties and remove trash from assigned areas
  • Oversee the activities of seasonal maintenance workers to ensure assigned work details are being performed and safety protocols are followed
  • Complete weekly time sheets, work details, and record keeping
  • Operate power equipment and hand tools
  • Operate small machine equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, & leaf blowers)
  • Respond appropriately to situations requiring first-aid

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional manner
  • Ability to Respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to work independently and supervise small groups of people
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Knowledge of basic administrative duties
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion
  • Ability to work up to thirty (30) hours per week

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • One (1) year of experience in general maintenance or landscaping
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree or related field or
  • Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance or landscaping in a supervisory capacity
  • First-Aid and CPR / AED Certified

SALARY : $16.00 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted
