Under the Direction of the Division Directors, the positions are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of construction and yard equipment, maintenance and repair tasks, and are assigned to a work crew and to a designated area. Assignment to operate equipment is assigned by seniority. The typical hours are Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and may be required to work any 8 hours in a 24 hour period, and work any 5 days of the week. Employees in this position are eligible for overtime, and overtime work is often available. Bilingual candidates encourage to apply. Essential Elements
Perform work outdoors under varying weather conditions on a year-round basis
Operate equipment in connection with the construction, maintenance and report or streets, sewers, water supply and distribution system, Parks, and related facilities
Loading and unloading trucks, picking up and hauling away street waste
Perform snow removal operations
Knowledge on the use of common hand tools
Detect needed mechanical work, make necessary adjustments and to report to management any defects or damage that will prevent the proper performance of equipment
Perform related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to perform maintenance, repair, and construction work regularly
Ability to perform manual work requiring considerable strength and endurance, safely and on a daily basis
Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
Ability to pass a physical and drug test, and subject to random drug and alcohol testing
Knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a variety of construction and related equipment
Knowledge if the hazards and safety rules in equipment operation
Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions on a year-round basis
Minimum Requirements
High Diploma or equivalent
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Valid Commercial Drivers License, Class A or B
Successful query from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Clearing House
The Starting Hourly Rate Of Pay Is
Public Works Laborer: $19.88 hourly
Sanitation Laborer (when assigned): $21.16 hourly
Motor Equipment Operator (when assigned):
$ 27.63 MEO Grade A
$ 28.52 MEO Grade B
$ 30.22 MEO Grade C
$ 31.19 MEO Grade D
