We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Recreation Program Supervisor (Supervisor of Golf) at Desert Hills Golf Course (DHGC). This position directly reports to the Golf Course Manager and assists in financial management duties as assigned, contract compliance, golf operations, golf tournaments development, golf course maintenance, equipment replacement programs, facility and capital infrastructure management, merchandise sales, league play, outing sales, junior golf development program oversight and personnel management.
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and supervises a wide variety of specialized recreation programs and events to meet the educational, recreational, leisure and social needs of the community; performs work according to Parks & Recreation (P&R) department safety and quality standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates a wide variety of arts, cultural and recreational programs and events for the Parks & Recreation (P&R) department; programs include special adult's and children's programs, recreation and skills classes, sports programs, golf programs, special events, holiday promotions, community activities, aquatic programs, summer programs, and adaptive recreation for people with special needs.
  • Performs job duties within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Exercises independent judgment within broad policy guidelines; evaluates and analyzes issues, and recommends and implements solutions; provides leadership, direction and guidance in strategies, planning, program development, priorities, and customer service issues.
  • Assures the effective allocation and utilization of budgeted funds; assures that project and program goals are met, appropriate services are provided, and operational issues are properly addressed and resolved.
  • Manages staff and assigns priorities and projects; mentors, coaches, and evaluates performance; assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload, resource allocation, customer participation, and technical issues.
  • Reviews the work of division staff to assure the work quality and the timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities; allocates resources and resolves workload and technical issues.
  • Manages a variety of technical issues, including inspection and evaluation of facilities and related assets for compliance with safety and security standards; reviews activity logs and develops strategies to manage issues identified; prioritizes repair and maintenance requests; manages budgets and expenses.
  • Monitors program operations, identifies problems and solutions; analyzes operational information and trends; creates summary reports and recommendations for improvements and new programs.
  • Promotes the P&R recreation programs and encourages participation in City programs and events; coordinates community services and programs with community groups, business and service clubs, and regional government associations.
  • Promotes P&R programs to local community agencies, civic organizations and citizen groups.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Parks and Recreation Management, Business or Public Administration, or related field; AND two years of public recreation program experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
    State and Federal laws governing the conduct and safety of municipal recreational facilities.
  • Rules, regulations and P&R policies for athletic games and sporting competitions.
  • Arts & Crafts techniques, methods and equipment.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Effective customer service methods and techniques.


Skill in:

  • Directing and coordinating recreation programs and operations.
  • Analyzing problems, resolving disputes and grievances, and developing effective solutions.
  • Managing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and coaching to improve staff performance.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Promoting a positive recreation environment, good personal behavior and safety standards.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Dealing tactfully and courteously with customers, and providing effective and friendly customer service.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, and representatives of regional community service agencies.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and public facilities. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
