Salary Range: DOE Union Rates

Schedule: Monday- Sunday, day and night shifts, on-call, flexible schedule a must

POSITION SUMMARY:

A Traffic Controller directs traffic for a road construction crew. Traffic Control Technicians often work in conjunction with other Traffic Control Technicians coordinating traffic flow via communication, either via two-way radio or hand signals. At times, they will use the assistance of barricades, cones, vehicle placement, and other devices which they position alongside the roadway. A Traffic Control Technician has the responsibility to protect the lives of our customers, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists and themselves on the roadway.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
  • Manage day to day work zone set up, maintenance and tear down. Meeting or exceeding customer, state, federal and company expectations.
  • Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe, well managed work zones.
  • Drive company trucks as needed.
  • Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order.
  • Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup and Professional Flagging responsibilities.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to all customers. This includes on-time arrival and well managed work zones.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to recognize dangers using hearing and vision.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and take safe action to avoid serious injuries to any pedestrians, vehicles, customers, and employees.
  • Ability to understand traffic signals/signs, traffic plans and customer requests.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, the public, and with other team members
  • Punctuality, time management and willingness to work in a team.
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a team and maintain a positive work environment
  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have valid driver’s license for at least 3 years (must be insurable through
    company insurance policy)
  • No driving violations within 3 years
  • No more than 1 moving violation within 3 years
  • Flagging experience of at least 3 years (preferred)*

LANGUAGE:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (written and verbal) with customers, CRS
    employees and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent lifting of heavy objects, ability to carry and place traffic cones to ensure the safety of the work zone. Lifting may be up to 50 lbs.
  • Lift, carry, place, and assemble traffic control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic.
  • Stand for long periods of time while flagging, in various weather conditions, and different times of day/night.
  • Various noise decibel levels
  • Stooping for prolonged periods of time.
  • Dexterity in the use of hand and fingers
  • Reaching, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and Vision (up close, at a distance, along the periphery)

  • 100% (required)
