Number of Positions: 1 Position Overview POSITION OVERVIEW City Year Kansas City seeks an experienced, collaborative, and people-focused Impact Director (ID), reporting to the Managing Director of Impact (MDI). The mission of the ID is to lead the implementation of the site’s service strategy, providing the tools and resources required for the site Impact Team to deliver high quality Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) services. The ID provides support and coaching to Impact Managers (IMs) to drive partnership advancement at each school in City Year KC’s portfolio and develops IMs to help advance site wide AmeriCorps Member experience priorities. The ID will also support ongoing training, learning, and development of Returning AmeriCorps Members (RACMs) at the site. The ID will directly supervise three IMs, and their work with up to 45 AmeriCorps members across six schools in the Kansas City Public Schools district. In this role, the ID will also sit as a member of the Impact Leadership Team (ILT), to support the overall leadership of the Impact Department, in collaboration with the MDI and Director of Learning and Coaching (DLC). The starting salary range for this position is $65,000-$68,000. This is a primarily in-person role, with intermittent options to work remotely. Job Description RESPONSIBILITIES – PEOPLE LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT Manage and coach IMs and ACMs to achieve service performance standards and reach their leadership potential. Impact Manager Coaching & Development Support staff learning and professional development through collaboration with the Impact Leadership Team (ILT), by modeling professionalism and effective leadership, and through individual feedback and party coaching. Successfully develop, manage, and coach a team of IMs throughout the service year; complete regular 1:1 check ins (bi-weekly minimum) to coach and provide feedback to managers Meet at least once a month with Returning AmeriCorps Members (RACMs) for Skip-Level Meetings to provide support and have a greater insight and understanding of team dynamics Use performance management process to coach IMs to meet individual development and performance goals; align priorities, expectations, and responsibilities with IMs, and communicate progress against goals on an ongoing basis Work with City Year Headquarters (HQ) partners and provide resources to support local learning team in executing the learning calendar; in areas of expertise, contribute to training of IMs (sitewide & individual specific) Partner with Chief of Staff (CoS) to build and implement a system for Corps support that ensures a strong Corps experience and their compliance with organizational and site-wide level policies Build talent pipeline by supporting efforts to identify, hire, onboard and develop high performing staff AmeriCorps Member Experience Provide ongoing support and coaching to AmeriCorps Members and support the ACM experience through addressing manager and corps member concerns, having a consistent presence in schools & support in escalating issues as needed. Collaborate with IMs and Directors to support ACM well-being in service, and intervene at the right time to provide direct support through coaching, perspective, and/or reinforcing existing resources (e.g. Employee Assistance Program - EAP) Effectively utilize survey data to analyze ACM experience and take action to close the loop on feedback through skip level team check ins & IM coaching follow through Provide individualized supports when necessary to improve ACM performance & performance coaching by completing in-class Observation and Coaching (O&C) per the Director of Learning & Coaching (DLC) strategy, supporting IM O&C goals, and using City Year HQ performance improvement resources where appropriate Plan, organize, and develop appropriate site-level RACM training throughout the year Cross-functional Partnerships (Site and HQ) Participate in CY HQ-led cohort activities for Impact Directors—learning cohorts and reflection opportunities to build City Year network of peers & resource familiarity Support execution of ACM Learning & Development (L&D), ACM onboarding & RACM development throughout the year Partnership Development & Maintenance Coach IMs on how to build school relationships by executing the local school engagement strategy, and by understanding and meeting partner teacher and school needs Consult with MDI & City Year HQ when necessary to address roadblocks to implementation of Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) services and strategize to meet WSWC implementation goals Ensure school safety plans are developed collaboratively with schools and that mutual policies and protocols are clearly understood, documented, and executed consistently Lead and support IMs to work directly with school leaders where necessary to advance school conditions for success over time In collaboration and support of the MDI, build and maintain strong relationships with school principals and reinforce commitments to shared goals; support necessary negotiation & escalation of school-based issues RESPONSIBILITIES – STUDENT PROGRESS Use the WSWC framework to coach IMs to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of Tier 1 supports and Tier 2 interventions. Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) Program Implementation & Delivery Lead Impact Managers to execute WSWC services that are aligned to the site’s multi-year strategy and schools’ improvement plans. Support development of ACM deployment and impact staffing plans Support IMs in aligning school goals and operating plans to CY goals and WSWC services at each school Monitor and support IMs in tracking progress against critical goals; regularly report progress to leadership staff and identify strategies for continuous improvement School visits Participate in observation and coaching as part of an observation team with the Impact Team and in collaboration with the vision of the Director of Learning and Coaching (DLC) Provide ideas to IM on service delivery based on interactions with school Student Impact & Results Coach IMs and ACMs on student enrollment and completion goals, monitor progress weekly using existing tools (CYschoolhouse, DESSA/Holistic Student Assessment - HSA, PowerBI). Take action when necessary to support IMs advancing WSWC goals including service partner negotiation towards conditions for success (working with correct students, regular intervention time, appropriate data entry, etc.) Attend KCPS and school level partnership meetings, data reviews and follow up with action steps to ensure partnership progress toward goals Support IMs and DLC in Observation & Coaching, provide feedback to IMs and ACMs as necessary to ensure intervention quality and student progress RESPONSIBILITIES – SITE-WIDE COLLABORATION / ORGANIZATIONAL INITIATIVES Participate in both individual and site-wide learning opportunities centered on Diversity, Belonging, Equity, and Inclusion (DBIE) practices Attend and engage in weekly full-staff and Impact Department meetings through sharing joys, participating in warmups and participating in note taking and time keeping as needed Support site engagements such external partner school visits, Red Jacket Day, MLK Day of Service, the Annual Gala, Graduation, etc. Participate in staff culture through City Year Kansas City staff retreats, Compass Points Meetings, staff circles, and Corps-facing events such as Learning and Development Days, Equity Summits, and Midyear Summits While CYKC does not have any overnight obligations currently on the calendar, this could be a possibility in the future For instance – in the future, the site may schedule an overnight retreat, or the organization / HQ may host regional or national gatherings that could include overnight stays and potential travel Participate in School Team Buddy program through monthly touchpoints and school engagements in-person with assigned school team EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity (DBIE) work, including desire to continue equity-based and anti-racist learning and practices at City Year. 3-5 years of professional experience in youth development, team management, and school service Knowledge of Kansas City Public Schools a plus Able to develop diverse talent through performance plans, reviews, and leadership opportunities (previous management experience required) Sets high expectations for self and others you are leading and holds self and team accountable for performance goals. Commitment to and experience with community service, national service, and/or the development of young people as leaders.
