Position Overview
  • The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000
  • The anticipated start date range for this position is August/September 2024.
  • This position will be hybrid. The Development team is expected to be in-person a minimum of 2 days a week. Front-line fundraisers, including this role, often need to be in-person 3-4 days a week to meet with donors.
For the Individual Giving Director (IGD) role, we are excited to connect with results- and team-oriented leaders. The IGD will secure financial support from Philadelphia-area individuals and family foundations and manage the Individual Giving Manager. The IGD partners with the Site Leadership Team and the 7-person Development department to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals and family foundations. The IGD builds sustainable and engaged individual giving partnerships, including our signature Red Jacket Society major gifts program ($10,000 ). Specific focus will be on growing our individual donor base to raise increased resources and ultimately, serve more students in Philadelphia. The IGD will be supported by the Individual Giving Manager and a regional grant writer, who also assists other City Year sites. The IGD will collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Development to ensure the site meets its annual budget of $10 million, including $2.9 million from private sources.

Job DescriptionWhat You’ll DoManagement of the Individual Giving Team - 20%
  • Manage and coach a high-performing staff member, the Individual Giving Manager
  • Partner with Regional Grant Writer to deliver grant proposals and reports for family and foundation funders
  • Support, grow, retain, and as necessary, hire additional development professionals within the Individual Giving team.
Individual Giving Leadership - 25%
  • Develop and implement an individual giving strategy to increase the funding for City Year Philadelphia and position the organization as a premier education equity leader in the community
  • Partner with department leadership to set and monitor annual budget and individual and foundation fundraising goals
  • Support all individual giving efforts including Red Jacket Society, mid-level giving, the Associate Board of Young Professionals, and appeals/campaigns such as #GivingTuesday
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Managing Director of Development and Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships to create strategies to identify and secure new supporters, fully leverage existing relationships, and increase multi-year commitments
  • Ensure that asset-based language is used in all communications and that stories center our students
  • Partner with and support the Development Committee of the Board
Donor Management - 30%
  • Raise $1M through the Individual Giving portfolio in support of FY25 private revenue goal of $2,900,000
  • Manage a portfolio of individual and family foundation donors through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with the aim to have donors increase their giving and engagement
  • Promote membership in the mid-level and Red Jacket Society programs, encouraging donors to invest $1,000 in City Year
  • Develop strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit leadership-level support and multi-year commitments from new individual donors and family foundations
  • Engage 3-5 donors per week, on average, through emails, calls, and visits to homes, offices, and events in the Philadelphia area
  • Document and maintain clear and timely records and call reports to track contracts, donor giving, notes, and assist in the maintenance of an accurate donor database
  • Build relationships with new, current, and lapsed individual donors (<$10,000) to renew their commitment to City Year Philadelphia
    Red Jacket Society & Prospect Generation - 20%
    • Lead overall efforts to build a robust Red Jacket Society, inviting donors to personally invest $10,000 in City Year Philadelphia
    • Work closely with the Board, Development team, Headquarters prospect research, and site leadership, to identify, engage, and cultivate a pipeline of prospects that can make annual and multiyear investments at the $10,000 level
    • Develop strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership-level support and multi-year commitments from new donors. Strengthen engagement and provide an equitable experience for all members of the Red Jacket Society
    Organizational Initiatives & Site Support 5%
    • Serve as a member of the City Year Site Leadership Team, providing strategic insight into site priorities
    • Engage in structured discussions and trainings on diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as a site
    • Participate in relevant network-wide meetings and calls; provide insight, feedback, and collective problem solving
    • Support and attend all major site events, including fundraisers, service days, trainings, and other activities and initiatives
    • Partner with City Year Philadelphia’s departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees
    • Attend internal and external engagement and training activities throughout the year
    • Additional responsibilities as needed, including department or site-wide special projects

    • 4 years of experience in fundraising or other relationship management, with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals.
    • Bachelor’s Degree or 2 additional years of experience
    • Experience building and implementing sales and cultivation strategies with individual donors and foundations
    • Proven record of success, management experience preferred, within an organization that has delivered strong, measurable results
    • Ability to translate complex model elements and program ideas into compelling and accessible proposals and pitches.
    • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team to meet goals.
    • Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills
    • Awareness of, commitment to, and experience with promising workplace practices grounded in diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity (DBIE)
