Position Overview

City Year Los Angeles seeks a frontline fundraiser, storyteller, and passionate champion for equity in education to join our high-performing, highly collaborative development team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Individual Giving, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping the team meet our goal of raising ~$8 million in private revenue from individuals, companies, and foundations. You’ll use your fantastic relationship-building skills, experience soliciting donors, and passion for helping students to thrive to manage your own portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and our Associates Board, which is made up of mid-career professionals passionate about helping to attract support for our work in schools across Los Angeles.
This role is both one that gives you autonomy in your work as well as support from your manager and the entire team in reaching your goals. It’s a great fit for someone looking to take their experience in fundraising and really grow their talents in raising major gifts. In addition to a strong Associates Board, the development team has the support of a powerhouse main Board of Directors, who are incredible connectors and particularly active in our annual fundraising gala, Spring Break. Job Description

Responsibilities

Donor Management & Stewardship (50%):

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 existing major donors and prospects through the entire moves management cycle to secure and sustain gifts from high-net-worth individuals.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor stewardship plans for individual donors to ensure sustained engagement and support, tailoring these plans to meet each donor’s preferences and interests.

  • Successfully steward CYLA donor relationships, managing appropriate frequency of outreach, communication, appreciation, and involvement.

  • Recommend new engagement opportunities and implement best practices for current and future donors.

  • Identify current donors with increased giving potential and collaborate with Senior Director, Individual Giving on strategy to increase gifts.

  • Co-manage CYLA Associates Board with Senior Director, Individual Giving, supporting with intentional engagement and execution of all touchpoints.

  • Draft compelling and customized proposals for major donors, clearly articulating the impact of their potential contributions and aligning with their interests and philanthropic goals.

  • Plan and execute memorable and meaningful school visits and other donor engagement experiences to showcase the impact of donors’ contributions while highlighting specific outcomes and stories of impact.

  • Develop a pipeline of prospects by researching and identifying individuals from events, service days, and/or volunteer opportunities.

  • In collaboration with the Development Officer and the Senior Director of Individual Giving, research, identify, and qualify prospective major gifts and donors from a variety of sources, including desk research and mining of individuals who have attended or volunteered at CYLA events.

  • Interact authentically with prospects at virtual and in-person events to establish and deepen potential and current donor relationships.

Reporting and Data Management (30%):

  • Maintain accurate records and donor information in Salesforce donor database within 24-48 hours, tracking cultivation and stewardship activities and progress to goals, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

  • Track donor history and produce comprehensive reports on fundraising progress, providing actionable insights to the Development Team to inform strategy and decision-making.

  • Develop detailed briefs for major gifts and meetings, synthesizing relevant donor information, engagement history, and strategic recommendations.

  • Analyze fundraising data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement, supporting continuous enhancement of major gift strategies.

  • Collaborate with Data and Program Teams to analyze and summarize data and prepare progress reports and proposals for individual donors.

  • Support gift tracking for major donors and events; follow up for recognition and gifts for donor-facing engagements.

Additional Site and Team Support/Collaboration (20%)

  • Support with AmeriCorps member development and training for donor-facing engagements such as school meet and greets and events.

  • Partner with CYLA departments and staff through event and service day participation and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure site-wide goals are met

  • Attend and support at multiple service day events throughout the year in partnership with the Civic Engagement team.

  • Work with the development team to leverage events to increase individual giving, such as City Year’s Spring Break fundraiser, service days (school beautification projects), and school visits for potential donors.

  • 3-5 years relevant experience including but not limited to non-profit fundraising, marketing/sales, relationship management or related fields
