CIVITAS RESOURCES INC is Hiring an Advisor, Local & State Tax Accounting Near Denver, CO

Summary of Position:

The State and Local Tax Accounting Advisor will have primary responsibility for indirect tax compliance including sales and use and ad valorem taxes.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Sales and Use Tax

  • Be responsible and take ownership of the use tax compliance process;
  • Responsible for preparation of tax work-papers supporting the use tax returns;
  • Ensure the timely filing and payment of the use tax returns;
  • Responsible for monthly and/or quarterly closing process, including journal entry preparation and general ledger reconciliation;
  • Develop, improve and streamline processes and procedures for use tax return compliance;
  • Research indirect taxes, monitor sales tax logic to ensure correct rates and tax rules are applied;
  • Responsible for preparing and/or working with third party vendor on sales tax refund claims;
  • Manage all tax related notices, audits or inquiries (State Tax Authorities, etc.); 

Ad Valorem Tax

  • Be responsible and take ownership of the ad valorem tax compliance process for personal property;
  • Responsible for preparation of tax work-papers supporting the Colorado Oil & Gas Declaration (NERF) return for multiple counties;
  • Responsible for preparation of tax work-papers supporting various personal property tax returns for multiple counties in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas;
  • Ensure timely filing and payments of all personal property ad valorem returns;
  • Responsible for month end closing process, including journal entry preparation and general ledger reconciliation;
  • Manage all tax related notices, audits or inquiries (State Tax Authorities, etc.);

Other

  • Coordination with external advisors;
  • Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities as may be required for special projects;
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, or Finance, or an equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting, closing, reporting, and hands-on accounting systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in oil and gas; upstream preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 products (Outlook, Excel, Word) required with advanced skills in Excel in particular. 
  • Experience with Power BI preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of indirect tax law and compliance;
  • Must possess working knowledge of Colorado Oil & Gas Declaration;
  • Certified Public Accountant license or relevant professional certification preferred. 
  • BOLO, Excalibur, or other P2 system experience preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
