PAY AND BENEFITS

Hourly Pay Range: $35.957078 - $45.358673

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

Generous paid time off package, including:

  • 12 hours of vacation accrued per month
    • Eligible newly hired employees will have the one-time option to frontload their first year of vacation accruals in compliance with EPP 66 - Vacation Leave! This means you have access to vacation time at time of hire.
  • 8 hours of sick accrued per month
  • 10 paid holidays and 1 personal day per year
  • Monthly accruals (prorated for less than 1.0FTE)

    • Employer paid 6% PERS retirement contribution (The county currently pays the employee’s share of the retirement contribution.)

Employees must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to receive full benefits. Employees working 20 - 29 hours per week are eligible for medical benefits for themselves and family members. Medical plans cover the employee and all eligible dependents (including spouse/domestic partner and/or children) at a reasonable cost.

If you answered “yes” to the questions above, we want you to join our team as a Part Time Sustainability Analyst with a focus on public education and outreach events with Clackamas County’s Sustainability & Solid Waste Program.
If selected for this position, you will collaborate with regional and local planners, partners, and volunteers to plan a variety of events and presentations to promote recycling and sustainability education in Clackamas County. Main responsibilities include organizing, scheduling, advertising, recruiting and coordinating volunteers for new and recurring events and outreach opportunities throughout the county. This position will also collaborate with the Master Recycler Program Manager to recruit Master Recycler volunteers and will act as a resource to provide ongoing education and support at Master Recycler events. Other responsibilities include developing public facing educational materials/resources and being a point of contact for community questions about the Sustainability & Solid Waste Program.
Please note, this is a part time position that averages 24 hours per week.Due to the nature of the events this position will be coordinating, hours per week will fluctuate between 20-29 and will regularly include evenings and weekends.

To that end, we are searching for an experienced individual, who is motivated to be a positive and collaborative contributor, demonstrating strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills that will allow us to improve, develop and enhance our operations.


Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience coordinating and leading events and/or community outreach that includes program planning, tracking data and reporting, creating outreach materials, organizing, staffing, and successfully executing events
  • Experience with community/volunteer engagement including recruiting, training, supervising, and recognizing volunteers
  • Experience in positions that required strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in person, over phone and by email
  • Ability to work a variable schedule (between 20-29 hours per week) that includes evenings and weekends
  • Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the County's driving policy

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  • Experience with recycling, waste reduction/waste prevention or sustainability program practices
  • Experience developing effective relationships with community partners and organizations
  • Experience creating public facing educational content and materials
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborates with partners (regional/local) and volunteers throughout the county at a variety of events and presentations to promote recycling/sustainability education. Coordinate these events by planning, scheduling, advertising, recruiting volunteers, prepping day of event materials and supplies, compiling and reporting event data at recurring events. Advise Waste Reduction Assistant on Event Recycling collection program.
  • Collaborates with the Master Recycler Program Manager to ensure consistent messages to Master Recycler volunteers within the county, provide ongoing education for new and existing Master Recyclers, recruit new Master Recyclers, and coordinate yearly Master Recycler class held in Clackamas County. Act as county contact for Master Recycler volunteers regarding education, questions and providing materials to use at events throughout the county.
  • Collaborates with regional solid waste planners to support programming to deliver sustainability, waste reduction and recycling education materials/presentations to the public.
  • Assists with development and implementation of public facing educational materials including flyers, county Sustainability & Solid Waste website, displays, presentations and events for community engagement with staff or Master Recycler participation throughout the county.
  • Manages incoming calls and emails from the public.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of: Sustainability, materials management, waste reduction, and resource conservation practices, programs, and activities; approaches and best management practices for assisting private and public sector organizations and individuals in developing and adopting such practices and programs; concepts of sustainability as applied in communities and in businesses; practices and techniques of research, project management and community or customer engagement.
Working knowledge of: Recycling markets, collection programs, and materials handling/processing; sustainability principles and the solid waste hierarchy; State, regional and local laws, rules and codes governing materials management, waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation; State and regional recovery goals; solid waste franchise systems; practices and techniques of public relations and marketing; English grammar and composition; office methods and procedures.
Skill to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; evaluate and provide technical assistance in recycling, waste reduction, purchasing, resource conservation, process improvement, and related operational policies, for businesses, workplaces and communities; encourage and motivate adoption of best practices and participation in related programs; work independently or as part of a team; recruit and coordinate volunteers and committee members; interpret applicable laws, regulations and rules; research, analyze and evaluate complex problems and devise solutions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups; effectively use word processing, spreadsheet, publishing/design, and presentation software; accurately record and report activities; deliver presentations and trainings to various audiences.

WORK SCHEDULE

This part time position works an average of 24 hours per week, however the schedule is variable and will fluctuate between 20-29 hours per week based on event responsibilities. The schedule will include a combination of standard business hours, evenings and weekends, as required for community events.
Please Note: This position is eligible for hybrid on-site/telework subject to theClackamas County Teleworking Policyand based on the Department’s business needs. The exact amount of on-site/telework and schedule will be discussed with the hiring manager during time of offer. Telework locations cannot be located outside of Oregon or Washington. Washington residents must perform 50% of their time on-site at Clackamas County.
