    GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
    The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) designs and implements communication and speech and language programs for students with intellectual disability existing concurrently with high intensity support needs. The therapist completes evaluations, plans therapy programs, and provides direct therapy to students. The SLP consults with the special education and other related service staff, to determine the needs of students and develop Individualized Education Plans.
    LIFE ENRICHMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM:
    The Life Enrichment Education Program (LEEP) provides specially designed instruction and related services for eligible Clackamas County students ages 5-21 years. Students attend self-contained classrooms in schools located throughout the county. The curriculum focuses on personal management, communication, practical living skills, vocational skills, leisure and recreation activities, and social skills. Based on the individual needs of each student, the ESD offers speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adaptive PE, and nursing support. LEEP also provides an extended school year program in the summer for students who would regress because of a lengthy educational recess.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Assesses and evaluates students' primary modes of communication, assistive technology needs, and speech and language development, to determine the impact of the students' needs on their ability to benefit from special education
    • Elicits input from special education staff (Teacher, OT, PT, Nursing) and other outside consultants, and works closely with parents in the communication program design
    • Identifies students’ individual needs and therapy goals through participation in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP)
    • Develops appropriate therapy plans to make progress toward achieving the students’ goals and objectives identified in the IEP
    • Provides individualized or small group direct speech, language, and augmentative/ alternative communication instruction to students whose IEPs contain SLP services
    • Provides training, regular observation, and feedback regarding the delivery of the communication instruction

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Current Oregon Board of Examiners Speech-Language Pathology License or Oregon Teaching License with Speech Impaired Endorsement
    • Recent successful experience and training in delivery of speech and language services in schools for low incidence disabilities such as intellectual disability and autism
    • Demonstrated ability to compose and produce concise professional documents
    • Skill at working with other related services staff and teachers as resources for planning and delivery of therapy
    • Ability to teach alternative communication modes (sign language, visual symbols) and use assistive technology communication strategies/devices frequently utilized with students who have significant mental and physical disabilities

    Clackamas Education Service District is one of Oregon's 19 ESDs charged with providing programs for children with special needs, technology support, school improvement, and administrative services to local school districts and the Oregon Department of Education. Clackamas ESD serves all school districts in Clackamas County, including Canby, Colton, Estacada, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Molalla River, North Clackamas, Oregon City, Oregon Trail, and West Linn-Wilsonville. These districts range in size from about 630 to 17,300 students. There are approximately 59,500 students in the ten school districts
    Clackamas ESD offers a comprehensive set of services through the following departments: Teaching and Learning; Technology Services; and Special Education Services, which includes the Early Learning Program. Constituent school districts annually approve the programs and services provided by CESD.
