Job Title:

CNC Machine Operator I

Reporting Responsibility:

Tool Room Supervisor

Position Type:

Full Time, Non-Exempt

Required Shift(s):

1st or 2nd Shift


Impact of Position:

Individuals in this position produce machined parts for future production processes through the basic set-up, troubleshooting and day to-to-day operation/tending of the Company’s CNC turning machinery.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Individuals can perform the following essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Attendance and Work Instruction– Adherence to assigned/scheduled shift times and work hours and adherence to Supervisor’s instruction
  • Daily set-up/run/operation of Company CNC equipment, specifically NexTurn Swiss type Lathes / Haas Dual Spindle Turning Center and additional machinery, as required.
    • Use/Interpretation of basic programming code regarding existing and new parts
    • Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery
    • Training on new machinery and programming as necessary
  • All paperwork and computer data entry regarding use and interpretation of:
    • Company blue prints, work orders/instructions
    • Dimensional Tolerances (use of micrometers, dial calipers, comparators, etc.)
  • Participation/Communication in all necessary interaction amongst relevant Departmental personnel.
  • Cross-training into additional Engineering and/or machining work may be required as necessary:
    • Manual grinding, mill, lathe assignments, etc.
    • CAD/CAM and 3-D Modeling (if applicable)
  • Accepts additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by Lead or Supervisor.
  • Running Component weld cell
  • Assisting with general production, if necessary


Supervisory Responsibility

  • None

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing throughout shift, with occasional seated work.
  • Repetitive bending/twisting of wrists and gripping with fingers/hands
  • Lifting/Dragging/Pushing of parts/bins/die carts/stock material ranging from 30-75 (or more) lbs.
  • Proper use when reaching, bending, stooping during operation of machinery, using of jib crane, die carts, lifting mechanisms, tow motor, pallet jacks, other shop specific machinery, etc..
  • Written, oral, and/or data entry communications
  • Tow motor operation – if necessary
    • Climbing on and off tow motor
    • Hand/Eye/Foot Coordination
    • Ability to see/hear and judge distances


Mental Requirements:

  • Problem solving and critical thinking
    • Ability to reverse engineer / interpret sketches or schematics a plus
  • Comprehension and demonstration of written/oral/verbally assigned tasks.
  • Ability to visualize completion of assigned tasks.
  • Advanced math and problem solving skills (i.e. dimensional tolerances/weights/measurements
  • Ability to anticipate problems and troubleshoot moderate to complex solutions
  • Unimpaired operation of tow motor – if required


Requirements

  • Basic Reading/Writing Comprehension
  • Basic Understanding and Use of Computers
  • Working Knowledge of general machine shop or CNC practices
  • Individuals must meet established Company Quality/Production Standards
  • Working familiarity with Auto Cad, CNC programming, or possibly previous custom shop experience
  • Understanding/Familiarity with:
    • Mathematics (measurements/tolerances)
    • Machine operation/maintenance
    • Steel/material properties

Training:

  • ITF’s, Computer Training, Applicable Quality Systems Processes and Work Instructions.
  • Understanding and sign off on established Company training and guidelines (Safety, Company Policies, Handbook Policies, etc.)
  • Current or in-process accredited training
  • Inter-departmental Cross-Training as provided or necessary
  • Future existing or department specific training (ex. Kia, Swiss Turn operation, outside seminars, etc.
  • Possible tow motor operation/certification – Valid Driver License
  • Familiarity with machine controls and panel interfaces (Fanuc, etc.)

Prevention and Safety:

  • Stay alert
  • Safety eye shields must be worn at all times
  • Hearing protection and gloves available if desired
  • Proper dress and shoes
  • Breaks to stretch/rest occasionally
  • Follow all company safety procedures
  • Constant application of proper/safe lifting techniques

Measures of success:

  • Temp Status – 20 Day / 45 Day Evaluation
  • Full- Time – 90 Day / 180 Day Evaluation
  • Yearly Review
  • Individuals are evaluated on a series of standards ranging from, but not limited to, individual skill level, efficiency and quality of work, attendance and working relationships within the Company, etc.
  • Observation of above-mentioned standards of production personnel by management/supervisors is continuous during and beyond the above-mentioned intervals
