HIGH SCHOOL Director of School Guidance CounselingFLSA Classification: Exempt Work Calendar: 210 Calendar
Salary: Based on Master Contract Reports to: Building Principal
Supervises: Guidance Operations

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, conduct, oversee and participate in various school activities such as Focused Instructional Time (FIT) before and after school supervision, day and evening school programs and events, year-end awards, and extra-curricular programs.
  • Evaluate the educational needs of students and make recommendations to parents, students and appropriate administrators concerning student placement/credit/course requirements; assist students with class registration, scheduling and program changes as needed; facilitate the transition from Middle School to High School.
  • Attend and participate in professional learning activities as directed.
  • Adhere to the Indiana Program Standards for School Counseling.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit and must demonstrate participation in and contributions to the goals of district cross functional teams.
  • Assists with administering standardized tests, surveys and gathering and interpreting the data for students, parents and staff.
  • Academic Guidance
  • Coordinates with the Director of Instruction in the administration of student standardized testing programs and the dissemination of results to the appropriate audiences, i.e. students, parents, teachers, department chairpersons and administration.
  • Maintains up-to-date information regarding rulings from DOE, e.g. changes in graduation requirements, testing changes, etc.
  • Aids assistant principal in the development and update of the Academic and Career Planning Guide
  • Organizes and oversees the annual registration process
  • Assists Assistant Principal and technology staff in building and maintaining master schedule
  • Stays current and oversees guidance role in programs that expand beyond our borders, i.e. C-9, dual credit, C-P Academy, Manual night school, etc.
  • Consults and works with Special Education Department Chairperson and the Assistant Principal as needed to serve -our identified student population
  • Verifies graduation requirements of students and their diplomas
  • Personal counseling of students
  • Counsels students regarding academic, personal and career goals.
  • Cooperates with outside agencies who provide services to individual students, as needed
  • Enlists the cooperation of parents of individual students when appropriate
  • Serves as a resource to teachers, principal, and other staff on matters relevant to guidance and counseling of students
  • Career Guidance
  • Oversees career education program and its integration into the curriculum
  • Coordinates the communication of up-to-date and relevant information to parents and community
  • Attends workshops, seminars, conferences and presentations of post-secondary institutions to maintain current information on admissions policies
  • Provides informative meetings for parents and students regarding high school requirements and opportunities, college and post-secondary options, and financial aid application procedures
  • Attends Administrative, Department and staff meetings
  • Serves as liaison between Administrative team and Guidance Department
  • Organizes and facilitates monthly Guidance Department meetings and professional learning community
  • Submits articles for monthly faculty and department chair communique
  • Conducts the performance appraisal of all members of the guidance department
  • Cooperates with assistant principal for Senior Awards night preparation
  • Assists at Graduation
  • Serves on committees to improve and provide the best educational opportunities for all students
  • Maintains and updates the guidance calendar
  • Addresses concerns directed to guidance office by responding directly or referring to appropriate source
  • Acts as resource for other counselors on discipline, special education, academic, crisis and personal counseling issues, and school policy
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by building principal and or his/her designee
Qualifications:
  • The preferred candidate must have a valid school counseling license. Administrative License preferred.
  • The preferred candidate will have previous experience as a school counselor with a preference to prior Director of School Counseling experience.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience working with high school aged children.
  • The preferred candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
  • The preferred candidate has teaching and counseling experience via internship or counseling position.
  • The preferred candidate exhibits excellent communication skills.
