Position Summary: The Physical Therapy Department in the Lewis School of Health Sciences at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a full-time core faculty position as an Assistant Professor (teaching-track) Anatomist. This appointment is for a full-time, 10-month position, starting in August 2024. The position is not tenurable, but includes a promotion path to Associate Professor and Professor ranks.

General Purpose: The successful candidate will have the ability to teach graduate physical therapy and occupational therapy level gross human anatomy and physiology didactically and in the Lewis School’s on-site cadaver lab. They will also mentor graduate student capstone projects. In addition, responsibilities will include advising students and service to the department, school, and university. The successful candidate will collaborate with the other anatomists on preparing the lab and cadavers each semester while maintaining the daily operations for the facility. The teaching load for this position is 19 credits per academic year, distributed across trimesters.

Candidates must have a doctorate or equivalent degree in anatomy or a related field and be able to perform cadaveric dissections as well as guide students though the process in lab. The ideal candidate will have strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the graduate level and the ability to work in partnership with department chairs and program directors in continually improving the anatomy curriculum to meet the needs of health sciences students.

Position Responsibilities:

• Teach a total of 19 credit hours of course work across three trimesters.
• Teach anatomy to Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students. This includes prosection and supervision of students’ cadaveric dissections in the anatomy lab.
• Coordinate with other anatomy instructors to maintain the anatomy lab and other teaching resources.
• Supervise student capstone research projects.
• Advise students.
• Participate in all departmental activities and service duties, including departmental meetings, recruitment activities, departmental outreach events.
• Contribute to course and programmatic outcomes assessment and continuous curricular improvement.
• Contribute as a member of the university community to institutional and professional service.
• Research and other forms of scholarship are encouraged but not required for this position.

Minimal Qualifications:

• Doctorate or equivalent degree in anatomy or related field and be able to perform cadaveric dissections as well as guide students through the process in lab.
• Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, motivation and enthusiasm to learn and mentor students.
• Ability to work with students from diverse background and strengths.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the graduate level and the ability to work in partnership with department chairs and program directors in continually improving the anatomy curriculum to meet the needs of health sciences students.
• Experience of student advising, and supervision of student research or other capstone experiences.
• Experience at managing a human cadaver lab.

Minimal Experience:

• Have taught and supervised students in cadaveric dissections and using lab resources.
• Have taught human anatomy and physiology.
• Are familiar with case, problem and team- based learning, and with leading group-study sessions.
• Have done course assessment.

Preferred Experience:

• Have been instructor of record to a relevant course.
• Have supervised student research or other capstone projects.
• Have developed course materials for teaching human anatomy.
• Have taught or advised graduate students in an allied health program.
• Have experience managing a human anatomy lab.
