Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consults with supervisors to arrange for equipment such as motor vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, required for assigned projects.
- Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties. Requisitions all necessary tools and materials are required to complete projects.
- Communicates with coworkers to plan, assign, and complete job activities. Monitors production and troubleshoots and initiates problem solving.
- Makes and adjusts work assignments as required. Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions.
- Interprets County policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Ensures availability of all required safety equipment. Trains employees in proper use of equipment.
- Trains and instructs Laborers and Concrete Finishers; ensures all personnel conform to well-defined safety practices; ensures availability of all required safety equipment and clothing.
- Performs periodic operator safety checks and preventive maintenance checks of assigned vehicle and equipment. Keeps assigned vehicle, tools and equipment in clean, presentable and good operational condition at all times.
- Determines the best set up and placement of equipment and materials in order to complete the job. Performs equipment set up procedures as specified in written manuals, procedures, or guidelines.
- Performs material take off, time estimation and equipment needs for project.
- Keeps assigned Job site, tools, equipment, inventory and supplies in safe, secure, neat and orderly condition.
- Requisitions all necessary tools and materials required to complete projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Four (4) years of related experience and/or training in constructing especially all forms of concrete work is required.
- Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Supplemental Information:
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Working knowledge of planning, assigning, monitoring, and supervising the work of field crews is required.
Working knowledge and the ability to successfully operate of the following equipment required: tandem axle dump truck, front end loader, small excavator, pick-up truck, and two-way radio.
Must have good working knowledge of the characteristics of concrete and concrete products.
Must have good working knowledge of general concrete construction.
Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Working knowledge of calculating figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, angles, slopes and volume, and applying concepts of basic geometry is required.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work requires constant attention to detail.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organizational or team goals rather than individual concerns.
