We are looking for an Ophthalmic Medical Technician to join our Team!

One seamless patient experience. While we do share a single medical record that allows us to collaborate and coordinate care across all locations and providers, more importantly, we share a common belief and set of principles that guide us as we care for our patients.

Candidates will be required to participate in an onsite skills assessment. Compensation commensurate with skills.

Requirements

The Ophthalmic Medical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collecting and recording patient medical history
  • Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations.
  • Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required)
  • Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA
  • Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function)
  • Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
  • Performing dry eye testing including Zone Quick and TBUT, Interferometry, brightness acuity testing
  • Participating in light cleaning of the facility
  • Maintaining a sanitized environment
  • Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
  • Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts.
  • Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
  • Assisting with Lasers or minor procedures

Working Conditions and Environmental/Physical Demands:

  • Standing/walking 95% of the day to perform the essential job duties.
  • Full body rotation (i.e., bending, stooping, twisting, etc.)
  • Ability to lift at least 20lbs.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
  • Minimal of one year in Ophthalmology
  • Preferred:
  • Certification
  • Certification through JCAHPO
  • Associates Degree - preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to perform manifest refraction is required
  • Ability to perform Goldmann tonometry is required.
  • Ability to effectively multitask
  • Attentive to detail and accuracy.
