Description Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Work Location: NAS Patuxent River, MD Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. At the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, MD, SA-TECH supports the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department and we are currently looking to hire a General Technician I-II to support the Structures Lab with fabrication, installation and support of sensors (thermocouples, potentiometers, accelerometers) on test articles for various aircraft and non-aircraft platforms. This technician will perform general engineering support functions for wiring, sheet metal, electronics, drafting, instrumentation, structures, or machining disciplines and will assist more senior Engineering Techs and Engineers on projects by gathering materials and equipment from source locations and delivering to work/test locations and returning items to proper locations. The Technician must demonstrate the ability to perform a practical application of tools and techniques to assigned duties and will receive technical guidance from a supervisor or higher level-technicians. The technician's work is reviewed at initiation for proper technique, and monitored for specific compliance with accepted practices and work assignments. You may also be asked to provide visitor control support as needed. In this role, you will perform one or a combination of such typical duties as: * Assembling or installing equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting.
  • Performing simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests, operating and adjusting simple test equipment, recording test data.
  • Gathering and maintaining specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.
  • Conducting computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas, plotting data and drawing simple curves and graphs.The following job functions are a basic requirement (and are not limited to these and other duties may be assigned): * Work with engineers and customers to design/develop/install aircraft strain gage and thermocouple sensors.
  • Work with engineers and other technicians to fabricate and setup A/C structural testing frames.
  • Provide instrumented items to QA for inspection.
  • Occasional travel may be requiredWork Conditions: * Conditions will vary but most of the work will be performed in enclosed buildings.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. assisted by others.
  • Working hours are 0530 to 1500 or 0600-1530 with a sporadic need to work flex hours and possibly some overtime.
Requirements Education/Experience/Skills: * High School diploma or equivalent.
  • For wiring, electronics, and instrumentation duties, must obtain (and subsequently maintain) IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification within 60 days (Government-taught classes may be used if available).
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, small circuits, and general tool use preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, focusing on MS Office, would be a plus in this role.
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
