Clearwater Paper is Hiring an Assistant Superintendent-Manufacturing & Production (Pulp) Near Lewiston, ID

Where you will work:The Lewiston mill is the largest of Clearwater Paper’s facilities, producing both paperboard and tissue product, and boasting over 1200 talented employees. Approximately two hours away from Clearwater Paper’s headquarters in Spokane, Washington, the Lewiston paper mill is a key component in Clearwater Paper’s business strategy. This location offers employees an opportunity to learn both sides of the business while influencing key business decisions and outcomes.

What you will do:

Operations

  • Support objectives and goals cascaded and aligned to the site Integrated Business Plan (IBP).
  • Coach the business unit personnel in the Clearwater Core behaviors.
  • Ensure the business unit works to standards (safety, Environmental, Quality, Cost Production).
  • Develop the required standards.
  • Support root cause analysis efforts.
  • Accountable for the business unit operational budget.
  • Support the capital budget process.
  • Support improvement projects and Approval for Capital Expenditure (AFCE) process to support midterm plans.

Safety & Environmental

  • Assist with all safety efforts.
  • Participate in reviews of all safety incidents and investigations of root cause.
  • Ensure follow up items are completed in a timely manner.
  • Support and/or lead the safety programs and ensure that safe work practices are followed and enforced.
  • Address safety concerns with urgency.
  • Ensure environmental compliance.

Leadership

  • Mentor shift supervisors to ensure quality leadership of hourly personnel.
  • Lead annual goal setting process for shift supervisors.
  • Develop supervisor team in areas of safety, environmental, quality, production and overall plant efficiency.
  • Ensure employee compliance with schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in development and implementing job-specific training programs, Qual-Card, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); and leadership development (i.e. LAUNCH, LEAD training attendance and application).
  • Conduct investigations of safety, policy/legal compliance, and employee relations incidents with shift supervisors and hourly personnel.
  • Participate in the grievance process.
  • Create an environment of trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive teamwork.
  • Lead performance management process, inclusive of quarterly check-ins and year-end evaluation; drive performance; coaching 1:1.
  • Coach and develop team members to ensure a sustained leadership pipeline.
  • Facilitate the motivation and morales of the business unit to achieve the expected goals.
  • Provide leadership coverage during the Superintendent’s absence

Quality

  • Support quality standards for all products produced.
  • Support quality initiatives and/or changes to ensure satisfied downstream customers.

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or GED required. B.S. Chemical Engineer or Pulp and Paper science preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in an operations leadership role in a Paper or Consumer Packaged Goods processing facility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel with ability to learn production related programs.
  • Self-directed and energetic, able to lead and motivate others.
  • Knowledge of industry, machinery, equipment, and processes.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills with experience in leading change
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting up to senior level audiences
  • Advanced systems aptitude and excellent computer skills, including Windows-based Excel.
  • High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
  • Dirt, noise, odor, & temperature extremes.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in a manufacturing process.

Total Reward Details:We’re committed to providing an exceptional workplace experience, including a comprehensive total reward package. This position is eligible for our Incentive Plan. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors. Benefits are generally available after 30 days and include medical, dental, vision, life, disability coverage, employee assistance program, and a 401k plan. Paid time off will include vacation days, personal days, and company holidays.
