Clifford Funeral Home is Hiring a Funeral Director Near Rutland, VT

Rutland is less than two hours to Burlington and Albany, three hours to Boston, Montreal, and coastal Maine, and four and a half hours to New York City.

The Clifford Funeral Home is a family-owned business with two locations and has been continuously serving the community since 1875. We are seeking a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer to help serve this wonderful community with quality and caring services. This is a management position, with responsibilities ranging from meeting families, making arrangements, completing transfers, embalming, supervising staff, and general business and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Arranges and directs all activities relating to transfers, funerals, visitations, and cremation services including preparation of funeral home facilities and equipment, and preparation of deceased, crematory operations, and on-call responsibilities
  • Supervises the administrative and support services of the funeral home such as trade services, building and vehicle repair services, oversight of funeral home expenditures and collection of receivables
  • Ensures vehicles, buildings, facilities, and grounds are maintained in a clean, manicured, and working order
  • Ensures all safety, quality control, and compliance standards are adhered to by staff
  • Plans and implements strategies to increase the client base for the company including direct involvement in marketing strategies, improvement of internal business practices, and preneed/aftercare programs
  • Maintains a positive environment so that employees are motivated to strive for performance excellence and achievement
  • Actively builds and maintains close, authentic relationships in the community and with individuals/ organizations such as ministers, churches, florists, civic groups, Hospices, community leaders and influencers
  • Administers staff work schedules
  • Fosters strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of trades, laws and policies
  • Screens new candidates, hires, and trains a skilled and effective staff
  • Performs supervisory and leadership duties, to include employee reviews and feedback
  • Represents the business and serves the community with integrity, honesty, and compassion, and supports a strong team culture

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Possesses Vermont Licensed Funeral Director (or ability to obtain a reciprocal license in a timely manner)
  • Management experience preferred, but not necessarily required for the right candidate
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Honesty, integrity and trustworthiness among co-workers, management, client families, and community
  • High attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and ability to interact and collaborate effectively with others in a team atmosphere
  • Proficient computer/technology skills
  • Provide excellent service to every family, every time
  • Valid Vermont Driver’s License with good driving record
  • Job related lifting

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Licensed embalmer
