Specialist (Specializing in Native Colorado Plants)
Position Title: Entry-Level Landscape Designer
Location: Longmont, Colorado, Ability to commute within Boulder County
Department: Landscape Design
Reports To: Lead Landscape Designer / Landscape Architect
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm (in the field, work from home, meetings in Boulder County), No nights, no weekends
Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and creative Entry-Level Landscape Designer with an understanding of native Colorado plants. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of landscape design experience, which may include formal education in landscape design or architecture. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects that emphasize sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Planning:
- Develop comprehensive landscape designs that incorporate native Colorado plants.
- Create detailed design plans, sketches, and 3D renderings using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Collaborate with senior designers and project managers to refine design concepts and ensure alignment with client goals and project requirements.
- Plant Selection and Knowledge:
- Select appropriate native plants that thrive in Colorado's diverse climate zones.
- Stay updated on native plant species, their growth habits, and continuous maintenance needs.
- Educate clients and team members on the benefits of using native plants in landscape design.
- Project Management:
- Assist in the coordination of landscape projects from conception to completion with clients, other designers, and installation companies.
- Conduct site analyses to understand the environmental conditions and constraints as well as client needs.
- Prepare and manage project documentation, including design proposals, planting plans, and maintenance guidelines.
- Client Interaction:
- Participate in client meetings to discuss design ideas, gather feedback, and present final plans.
- Build and maintain positive client relationships through effective communication and professional demeanor.
- Anticipate and maintain client needs with positive solutions in a suitable manner and provide honest and candid feedback to clients regarding their perceptions of ideas, products, and services being provided to maximize client retention.
- Sustainability and Innovation:
- Advocate for sustainable landscaping practices and incorporate eco-friendly solutions into designs.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, innovations, and best practices in landscape design and sustainable development.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture or a related field.
- Relevant coursework and projects focusing on native plants and sustainable design practices.
- Experience:
- Minimum of three years of landscape design experience, which can include academic projects and internships.
- Demonstrated experience with designing and implementing landscapes using native Colorado plants is preferred.
- Familiarity with landscape materials to include wood, gravel, mulches, pavers, block, and stone.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD is a must, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Strong understanding of Colorado's native flora and ecological principles.
- Excellent graphic and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
