Position Objective

The Associate Director (AD) for the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Campus Climate will lead the oversight of day-to-day operations for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (O-EDI). The AD of O-EDI & CC supports the implementation and the achievement of the O-EDI priorities, objectives, and strategies as they relate to the college wide strategic plan, campus climate results, and college scorecard equity measures. As we improve our campus climate, this position will lead the O-EDI team in providing college-wide learning, training, and tools to address matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism. This position will collaborate with, and report to, the Associate Vice President for EDI to provide subject matter education, coaching, consultation, programming, evaluation, and reporting that is critical in fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement, organizational accountability and effectiveness, compliance, momentum, and advancement towards Clover Park Technical College's (CPTC) equitable and anti-racist strategic plan, strategies, and goals.
The position will also provide leadership through the development, on-going planning and the direct implementation of a new comprehensive student peer mentoring program that will enhance current and future diversity program opportunities for students from historically marginalized communities while addressing barriers to retention. Using the College Access: Research and Action (CARA) model and core competencies, this position will supervise trained mentors to provide opportunities for students to work together to navigate the educational system in a technical college setting using evidence-based mentoring strategies.
This position will work closely with the following departments who will be strategic partners, stakeholders, and collaborators:

  • The Foundation for Tacoma Students

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Management of O-EDI department and college wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategic priorities implementation
Tasks include:
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of O-EDI department and staff, to also include peer mentorship student employees.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate O-EDI staff to also include approval of leave, conduct performance evaluations and professional development plans, one on one meetings, and team development.
  • Collaborates with all members of the O-EDI Team, Disability Services, and affiliated groups on various projects and events to support the seamless alignment of EDI strategic priorities aimed at eliminating opportunity gaps that are embedded in the 2023-2028 college strategic plan.
  • Serve as the acting AVP of EDI in the absence of the AVP of EDI.
  • Drive the vision for creating a campus climate that is inclusive and welcoming to undocumented and Latino/a/x/e students.
  • Provide EDI consultations with faculty, staff, and instructional partners to develop and facilitate customized EDI workshops and presentations that support EDI college wide learning outcomes.
  • Provide oversight to the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive EDI-focused professional development program for degree-seeking students, staff, and faculty audiences in accordance with RCW 28B.10.149 Diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism- Program for students and RCW 28B.10.145 Diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism- Professional development. Become a trained search advocate within one year of employment to work with search committees throughout the search and selection process to advance equity, validity, and diversity at CPTC.
  • Support the momentum for identity-based affinity and accountability groups. •Actively participate in campus-wide groups, committees, and initiatives such as the College Council shared governance, Equity Council shared governance, and Guided Pathways/Achieving the Dream.
Duty : Peer Mentorship Program Administration and Student Identity Development
Tasks include:
  • Develop, implement, monitor, evaluate and maintain continuous improvement for peer mentorship offerings from O-EDI within a student identity development framework in accordance with RCW 28B.50.920.
  • Provide direct supervision, training, professional development, and evaluation to peer leaders to understand how to support student mentees with each of the 5 core competencies: College environment and fit, paying for college, navigating college systems, career pathways, and counseling and communication; through regular individual meetings, staff meetings, annual trainings, and student employee onboarding orientation.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a 5 person student leadership team to ensure student voice and input is centered in the development of program offerings and operations.
  • Develop the job description for the peer leader student employees to reflect accurate and updated duties.
  • Sustain an authentic relationship and partnerships with Foundation for Tacoma Students, College Access: Research and Action (CARA), and CPTC College Success faculty to support the goal of post-secondary degree completion at CPTC.
  • Develop necessary ongoing training for peer leaders.
  • Lead, and coordinate participant tracking to demonstrate effectiveness of programming in support of our college goal of increasing persistence, retention, and success of diverse student populations, first time freshmen, first generation, low-income, students with disabilities.
  • Serve as a resource person for students and the campus community; facilitate referrals to appropriate administrative departments to resolve problems and obtain accurate information; project a positive image for O-EDI; utilize discretion and interact tactfully, sensitively and effectively with a diverse public and college constituency to resolve problems.
Duty: Assessment, Reporting & Budget
Tasks include:
  • Use HEDS to conduct a campus climate survey every three years and follow up student listening sessions in the alternating years.
  • Utilize findings from a variety of assessments to develop professional development, determine future institutional needs/intervention strategies/policy change, and create opportunities for greater campus engagement.
  • Compile, analyze, and share relevant professional development and training assessment data via an annual EDI impact report, with SBCTC, institutional stakeholders, and executive leadership.
  • Support the implementation of a data informed roll out of the college wide learning outcomes.
  • Serve as the budget authority for dedicated funding for training, programming, and student employee wages.
  • Facilitate the completion of peer leader evaluations and assessments (post summer/foundational training written assessment, mid-year evaluation, counseling observation, end of year evaluation).
  • Guide peer leaders in utilizing a data-tracking system to monitor student progress and track benchmark and outcome data.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Institutional Effectiveness to meet our requirements outlined in the Data Sharing Agreement with Foundation for Tacoma Students.
  • Maintain O-EDI websites to communicate the O-EDI impact and ensure training frameworks and training materials used for relevant RCWs are publicly accessible on the CPTC website.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of two years of experience planning, implementing, and assessing programs designed to address the needs of diverse student communities.
  • Any combination of experience working with and for underrepresented and underserved communities, preferably with Latino/a/x/e and Black/African American communities.
  • Any combination of experience with teaching/instruction and/or developing and facilitating workshops and training, preferably in areas of diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of power, privilege, oppression, and antiracism ideologies within the context of the United States of America.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to develop culturally responsive programs in a higher education OR nonprofit environment by serving as a planning member for the development of a culturally responsive program.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development frameworks (primarily related to Intersectionality, LGBTQIA , Latino/a/x/e, and African American identity development theory).
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships and function as a team member.
  • Ability to facilitate and moderate dialogue among cross-cultural environments.
  • Possess a commitment to anti-Blackness, intersectionality, and social justice.
